JAKARTA (March 7, 2020) - Social Minister, Juliari P. Batubara chaired an evaluation meeting for the handling of disasters occured in Greater Jakarta. The meeting was attended by 250 volunteers of the Youth Disaster Preparedness (Tagana) from Banten, Greater Jakarta, and West Java, Saturday (7/3).
In his remarks, Social Minister expressed his appreciation to Tagana for the service in handling disasters.
"We wouldn't have known what to do without them. Thus, I offer my sincerest appreciation that money can't buy," said the Social Minister.
The most valued asset, he continued, in time of disaster was the Tagana volunteers. Every time the Social Minister went to disasters affected areas, during his four months of service, he said that there were always Tagana in standby.
Ari said disasters in Indonesia were inevitable, "We must always be vigilant and alert to every kind of natural disasters namely floods, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, besides social disasters too," he said.
Further, he said that the presence of Tagana could alleviate the burden or prevent casualties from adding up in time of disaster because Tagana was part of Community-Based Disaster Management.
The disaster management evaluation meeting was also attended by the Director General of Social Protection and Security, Harry Hikmat, Director General of Social Empowerment, Pepen Nazarudin, Director General of Social Rehabilitation, Edy Suharto, and Head of the Education, Research and Social Counseling Agency (BP3SS) ), Syahabuddin.
Furthermore, Ari emphasized that in the future, Tagana would be preserved and the quality would be improved. The number of Senior Tagana should increase as well as Middle Tagana and Junior Tagana.
"Middle Tagana becomes Senior Tagana, Junior becomes Middle. This stage management must be strengthened," concluded the Minister.
