JAKARTA (February 6, 2020) - After the floods surrounded the capital city of DKI Jakarta at the beginning of last year, the Ministry of Social Affairs recorded that 16 people died. As a form of government concern, the Ministry of Social Affairs handed over compensation to nine heirs at the Central Jakarta Mayor's Office, Thursday (6/2).
Member of The House of Representatives Commission VIII Republic of Indonesia (DPR RI), Hidayat Nur Wahid directly handed over compensation to the heirs to nine victims who died due to flooding in DKI Jakarta Province.
"Maybe the numbers given cannot replace the presence of brothers and sisters who have died, but this is our obligation to help," said Hidayat Nur Wahid when handing over donations.
The total assistance submitted by the Ministry of Social Affairs was 135 million rupiah. Meanwhile, each heir received compensation worth 15 million rupiah.
Present to accompany Commission VIII DPR RI, on duty Director of Social Protection for Natural Disaster Victims (PSKBA) of the Ministry of Social Affairs, M. Syafii Nasution, Mayor of Central Jakarta, Bayu Meghantara, and Head of the Central Jakarta Social Service Agency, Ngapuli Perangin Angin.
Through a visit to the handover of compensation, Hidayat expressed his gratitude to Ministry of Social Affairs for all their hard work in handling the flood disaster.
"Thank you to all levels of the Ministry of Social Affairs, colleagues from Disaster Preparedness Cadet (Tagana), thank you for your hard work, sincere work and extraordinary work, sacrificing for our brothers who were affected by the disaster," he said.
Meanwhile, according to Syafii Nasution, since the last flood, the Ministry of Social Affairs has disbursed funds of around 10 billion in material form as buffer stock, including beneficiary compensation, through the Ministry of Social's State Budget.
"This is a form of the Ministry of Social Affairs' concern that disasters cannot be handled by only one agency, National Disaster and Mitigation Agency (BNPB), but also Ministries / Agencies join forces to work together in accordance with the established clusters," said Syafii.
One of the beneficiaries, Sri Suwarni (45) said that she was the heir of Sutarso (85) who died at the refugee camp because of the cold after the floods hit their house. With halting tones, she then recounted the chronology of the death of the victim.
"As far as I know, my father was cold. I saw that my father was already stiff in a wheelchair, because my father could not walk, his body was cold all over. (The incident) was around 2 o'clock in the refugee camp," she said while sobbing.
She said that the compensation she received would be used for the cost of cleaning up the tomb and for the recitation. "I want the money to be used to repair the grave and the salvation." she said.
