JAKARTA (30 July 2021) - The Ministry of Social
Affairs is one of the Ministries attending the Talk Show "Improving the
Synergy of Integrated Services to Protect and Fulfill the Rights of Victims and
Witnesses of TIP" in the highlight of the World Day Anti-Trafficking in
Persons.
In this Talk Show, the
Director General of Social Rehabilitation represented by the Director of Social
Rehabilitation of the Persons with Social Deviance Issues & Victims of
Trafficking in Persons, Waskito Budi Kusumo conveyed several efforts made by
the Ministry of Social Affairs in fulfilling the rights of victims and
witnesses of the Crime of Trafficking in Persons (TPPO).
For information, the
five-yearly report of the Task Force for the Prevention and Handling of the
Crime of Trafficking in Persons (GTPP-TPPO) in 2015-2019 showed that there were
2,648 victims of trafficking in persons consisting of 2,319 women and 329 men.
"This figure shows
that TIP cases are increasing and many women are victims, especially during the
Covid-19 pandemic. As stated by the Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child
Protection, Mrs. Bintang, this is an extraordinary crime," said Fatma Ayu
Husnasari, Metro TV presenter as a moderator in Talk Show.
Waskito also confirmed
the statement from the Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection,
Bintang Puspayoga, who stated that TIP is an extraordinary crime, even a crime
that is very difficult to eradicate because almost all countries have
experienced its effects. For this reason, joint efforts are needed to eliminate
TIP.
The Ministry of Social
Affairs seeks to fulfill the rights of victims and witnesses of TIP with social
rehabilitation services. In 2021, the Ministry of Social Affairs has changed
the service paradigm to be multifunctional.
The Ministry of Social Affairs
has social rehabilitation centers that originally provided services based on
social rehabilitation clusters, for example, the Children's Center only handled
children's problems, as well as the elderly, people with disabilities, victims
of drug abuse as well as persons with social deviance issues and victims of
trafficking in persons.
But now the paradigm shift from service to multifunction has forced 41 social rehabilitation centers to be able to serve all social rehabilitation clusters, one of which is dealing with victims of trafficking in persons. "So if initially victims and witnesses of TIP could only be served by Mulya Jaya Center in Jakarta and 2 Protection Houses and Trauma Centers (RPTC) in Jakarta and Tanjung Pinang, now they can be served in 41 centers throughout Indonesia," explained Waskito.
