BANJARMASIN (July 23, 2019) - Minister of Social Affairs Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita visited the Social Rehabilitation Center for People with Mental Disabilities (BRSPDM) "Budi Luhur" Banjarbaru on Tuesday, July 23. He was amazed by the rehabilitation program carried out by the hall, which was the provision of skills according to the interests of the beneficiaries.
The provision of skills for the beneficiaries consists of a learning process and vocational training aimed at developing their creativity and independence when they return to their places of origin. The results of the supply are various creations that have penetrated the export market to the Middle East, including multicolored beads, making salted eggs and printing brick.
According to the Minister, there are some positive activities given to the residents of the hall, although it is very simple. However, it shows that the Ministry of Social Affairs' efforts through the hall are certain to have fulfilled the right to a decent life and the development of functional capabilities of persons with mental disabilities.
In addition, Social Minister Agus emphasized that BRSPDM is not a place to cure people with mental disabilities but rather as a reference or further formation of the healing process carried out by the hospital. By law, the duration of continued service is only limited to six months.
During the visit, the Minister stated that his aim was to see the services developed at the hall to ensure that people with mental disabilities were provided with good services. Accompanying the Minister of Social Affairs is Inspector General, Director General of Social Empowerment, Head of Social Education & Training Agency, Head of Public Relations Bureau and Director of Social Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities.
