KULON PROGO (November 28, 2023) - The Ministry of Social Affairs and Commission VIII DPR RI distributed social assistance to overcome extreme poverty in the community in Kulon Progo Regency.

The specific Working Visit Team for Commission VIII DPR RI was led by Member of Commission VIII DPR RI My Esti Wijayati along with Members of Commission VIII DPR. This working visit is in order to find out the follow-up to handling Extreme Poverty in Kulon Progo. The Director General of Social Rehabilitation Pepen Nazaruddin also accompanied him on the visit.

Member of Commission VIII DPR RI, My Esti Wijayati said, that Commission VIII was present to see firsthand the efforts to deal with Extreme Poverty that had been implemented and the obstacles faced.

"We are trying to improve strategies and efforts to improve the welfare of society, looking at the human development index in Kulon Progo Regency," said My Esti, Member of Commission VIII DPR

The Ministry of Social Affairs together with Commission VIII DPR RI also distributed assistance worth IDR 217 billion to beneficiary families (KPM) in Kulon Progo Regency consisting of assistance from the  Family Hope Program (PKH), Non-Cash Food Assistance program (BPNT), Social Rehabilitation Assistance (ATENSI), and the Indonesian Economic Heroes (PENA) program.

"The Indonesian Economic Heroes are good because, through the PENA program, the beneficiaries can sell, they can open rice stalls and fried food to help the family's economy," said John Kenedy Azis, Member of Commission VIII DPR

One of the KPM recipients of assistance from the Indonesian Economic Hero Program, Rubinem, 44 years old from Temben Hamlet, said that the assistance provided was very useful for her business.

"I sell pecel (traditional Javanese salad with peanut sauce) noodles at home, with the help I want to buy selling equipment such as stoves, display cases, and basins. I'm very happy to be more enthusiastic about my business," said Rubinem
