Tagana Assists with Clean Water Distribution in East Lombok
EAST LOMBOK (October 25, 2024) – Ministry of Social Affairs (MoSA) and the Provincial Social Office of West Nusa Tenggara are working together to alleviate the drought in Kelotok Hamlet, Wakan Village, Jerowaru District, East Lombok. MoSA Disaster Response Volunteers (Tagana) are actively assisting in distributing clean water to the residents of Kelotok.
"We've deployed Tagana to help distribute clean water to drought-affected residents in Kelotok Hamlet. The water is given by the West Nusa Tenggara Provincial Social Office, and we are assisting with the distribution," stated Masryani Mansyur, Acting Director of Social Protection for Natural Disaster-Affected People (PSKBA), on Friday (10/25/2024).
Kelotok Hamlet is one of the areas severely affected by drought in East Lombok, disrupting residents’ daily activities. Many people are straining to wash their dishes or clothes, while Muslim inhabitants have had to do tayammum (dry ablution) due to a lack of water for ablution.
To support the community, the West Nusa Tenggara Provincial Social Office began distributing clean water to Kelotok Hamlet residents on June 25, 2024. Three water tank units, with a total capacity of 15,000 liters, were deployed to supply water to 100 households affected by the drought.
In the distribution process, Tagana from West Lombok, Bima City, and North Lombok actively transported water from the tanks to residents’ homes. They visited each home, filling buckets, pots, and jerry cans with clean water for the residents to use.
In response to the drought crisis in Kelotok, the West Nusa Tenggara Provincial Social Office and Tagana remain on standby. The Social Office has provided a hotline for residents to call whenever they need water assistance. When hamlet officials contact the Social Office for help, the service promptly prepares clean water, and Tagana swiftly assists with its distribution from house to house.
