16 Papuan Youths Participate in a Workshop on Introduction to Electric Motorbikes

SURABAYA (14 July 2022) - The Ministry of Social Affairs (MoSA) continues to level up the capacities of Papuan youths. Since last Tuesday, 16 Papuan youths have attended training on basic introduction to electric motorbikes.

The workshop on the introduction of e-trail motorbikes is a series of follow-ups on the direction of the Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini to improve the quality of Papuan human resources. For this purpose, the Ministry of Social Affairs cooperates with various elements from both the creative community and universities.

This time, the training was held at the Department of Robotic Engineering, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember Surabaya (ITS). "So far ITS has been one of the important partners of the Ministry of Social Affairs in helping Papuan human resources. We believe that under the guidance of experts at ITS, they will develop quickly," said the Director of Empowerment of Remote Indigenous Communities and Social Entrepreneurship Juena Br. Sitepu.

On a different occasion, ITS Expert Bambang Sudarmanta stated, participants were given an initial introduction to the e-trail motorbikes made by the ITS team. They explained the raw materials, the manufacturing process and the length of time it took to make the motorbikes.

"Moreover, the participants were invited to see the location for making e-trail motorbikes after they discussed with the ITS team regarding the material during the workshop activities," said Bambang in Surabaya (14/07).

In the activity entitled "E-trail Motorbike Assembly Workshop for Social Entrepreneurship Program", 6 participants from Puncak Jaya, 5 from Yahukimo and 5 from Cendrawasih University (Uncen) were involved. They followed the activity from July 12 to July 21.

Bambang Sudarmanta added, through this training, it was hoped that all participants would understand and have the skills to make, use and maintain electric motors.

"So that when these motorbikes are handed over to the people of Puncak Jaya and Yahukimo, they will already understand how to use and maintain the use of these electric motorbikes," he said.

The participants from Uncen were from the lecturer element. The participation of Uncen lecturers was expected to open opportunities for knowledge transfer from ITS to Uncen so that in the future this e-trail motorbike can be produced at Uncen. 

Bambang stated that all participants looked enthusiastic during the workshop. "They showed great curiosity. They asked lots of questions and were excited during the activity," he said.

Previously, Papuan youths had received various training from the Ministry of Social Affairs. There was crocodile skin processing which was held in Bandung some time ago, fiber boat building training with a team from ITS and crocodile skin tanning training which was carried out in Jayapura Papua.
