36 Paintings of Persons with Disabilities Sold, Minister of Social Affairs Expects Limitations Not an Obstacle to the Achievement
There were 60 paintings on display at the HDI Expo 2022 from various themes, ranging from abstract paintings, landscapes, to caricature paintings.
A total of 36 paintings were sold worth Rp340.2 million, consisting of 18 auctioned paintings and 18 non-auctioned paintings.
Risma said that the 18 auctioned paintings were sold for a total of Rp245 million. According to her, all the money from the painting auction will be returned 100 percent to the artists.
"The 18 paintings worth Rp245 million were auctioned. But, it does not include those purchased directly during the exhibition," said the Minister after the auction at the Aneka Bhakti Building (GAB) of the Ministry of Social Affairs.
She admitted that the painting exhibition and auction had been held for the second time. Risma hopes that the enthusiasm of people with disabilities to work continues to increase because limitations are not an obstacle to achievement.
"This is already the second year. We hope that they can continue to work because disability is not an obstacle to achievement," she said.
One of the works sold was a painting by a mentally disabled artist named Neneng (20) entitled 'Playing'. Neneng's painting was sold for Rp40 million and bought by Didit A. Ratam.
According to Neneng, this painting tells the figure of Social Minister Risma who is playing at home with her sister named Seli.
"This is beautiful Ms. Risma," said Neneng while pointing at the Minister of Social Affairs.
Meanwhile, the auction of paintings of people with disabilities as a series of events commemorating HDI 2022 was attended by ILUNI UI, IA ITB, Directorate General of Culture of the Ministry of Culture, PT Telkom, PT United Tractors, PT Pos Indonesia, IPB Alumni Association, kitabisa.com, Kompas Humanitarian Fund, PT Astra International, ITB fine arts curator, SCTV Indosiar Pundi Amal Peduli Kasih Foundation, and Yansen.
Risma said the painting auction was organized to help the economy of artists with disabilities.
"We try to give space to our children and friends so that they can be more creative according to their respective talents. This time, we invite our friends to be able to buy their works, so that they can survive and they can continue their lives," explained Risma.
Previously, Social Minister Risma said that in the 2021 auction, the Ministry of Social Affairs could raise approximately IDR 400 million.
"I see there are not more participants (than last year). But, hopefully there will be more results they achieve. Once again to continue their lives," he added.
For information, HDI Expo 2022 is a showcase of the extraordinary potential of people with disabilities through the works they produce. Starting from works of art (paintings, dances), processed food and snacks, typical Indonesian products such as fabrics, handicrafts, to accessibility tools.
