A Teen with Bone Cancer Determines to Recover with MoSA’s Support

JAKARTA (12 February 2024) - The Ministry of Social Affairs (MoSA) assisted Abdul Malik (16), a resident of Blokang Village, Karangsentosa Village, Karangbahagia District, Bekasi Regency, who has bone cancer (osteosarcoma) through the Pangudi Luhur Integrated Center in Bekasi and the Directorate for Empowerment of Remote Indigenous Community.

It began with Abdul, who was playing futsal and unintentionally hit the goalpost. Abdul felt no pain following this encounter. However, after ten days, Abdul's right leg swelled and the family decided to take him to the nearest hospital.

Currently, Abdul is undergoing treatment at Persahabatan Hospital in Jakarta and has had a biopsy. "From the biopsy results, it was concluded that the lump on Abdul's right knee was a malignant tumor/cancer called osteosarcoma (bone cancer) stage 3 A," said dr. Sigit Daru Cahayadi Sp. OT(K) on Friday (26/1/2024).

Abdul's father, Puji (36), is the breadwinner of the family and works as a security guard. The earnings for security guards are insufficient to meet their basic needs, let alone pay for Abdul's medical treatment.

Knowing this, MoSA provided Social Rehabilitation Assistance (ATENSI) in the form of nutrition, necessities, personal hygiene equipment, and clothing needs. Furthermore, MoSA presented Abdul with a three-in-one wheelchair to make his daily activities easier.

To help the family's economy, MoSA provided entrepreneurial assistance to Mrs. Sapnih, Abdul's mother, in the form of a basic food stall.

“Abdul wants to recover and become healthy again. However, Abdul refuses to accept his current situation. That is why MoSA is here to support and motivate Abdul," said Ch. Iriani R, an officer of the Pangudi Luhur Integrated Center.

MoSA with related parties has promised to monitor Abdul's condition and health developments. Apart from that, MoSA will continue to accompany Abdul during his treatment so that he can recover and be as healthy as before.
