BANDUNG (January 28, 2023) - The Ministry of Social Affairs handles many cases of poor people who have children with stunting and malnutrition. Children with stunting are a serious challenge for developing a superior human resources agenda.
On the other hand, treating children who are malnourished is not easy. The social approach is important because stunting is not only a health and nutrition problem but also a problem of parenting and community behavior.
Therefore, prevention efforts are significant rather than overcoming them. For this purpose, the Ministry of Social Affairs through the Center for Education, Training and Professional Development (Pusdiklatbangprof) and the Bandung Social Welfare Polytechnic (Poltekesos) is collaborating with the Tanoto Foundation to accelerate the reduction in stunting rates.
Ministry of Social Affairs, through Pusdiklatbangprof, has developed a module for accelerating stunting handling for Trainer and PKH Social Companions. And this makes an extraordinary contribution, especially for Beneficiary Families (KPM), which number around 10 million families.

"Poltekesos Bandung collaborated with the Tanoto Foundation in 2021 to accelerate the reduction of stunting by producing a Stunting Prevention Behavior Change Action model (AKSI HANTING)," said Director of Poltekesos Bandung Dr. Marjuki, M.Sc. in his statement at the Workshop to Discuss the Replication of the Stunting Prevention Behavior Change Action Model (AKSI HANTING), on Thursday (26/1).
This activity was carried out to support the acceleration of stunting prevention. Present at the workshop activities, as keynote speakers, Lead Manager of TP2AK Secretariat of the Vice President Iing Mursalin, Head of Early Childhood Education & Development Tanoto Foundation Eddy Hendry as a resource person, Deputy Director for Academic Affairs at Poltekesos Bandung Admiral Nelson Aritonang, Ph.D, and Chair of Indonesian Social Welfare Education and Social Work Prof. Oman Sukmana.
AKSI HANTING targets primary groups, namely pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, caregivers, young women, and cadres in eight villages assisted by Poltekesos in West Java Province, involving 32 lecturers and 32 students.
AKSI HANTING carried out in villages includes outreach with the media (leaflets, TikTok, banners) and cadres' guidance and outreach to ambassadors about stunting prevention. "The number of cadres who support stunting prevention activities is 64 cadres and 160 AKSI HANTING ambassadors, consisting of eight cadres in each village, and there are 20 stunting prevention ambassadors," Marjuki said.
AKSI HANTING model has been disseminated to regency/city governments and social welfare universities that are members of the Indonesian Social Welfare/Social Work Education Association (ASPEKSI). "This can be replicated with the support of village governments to accelerate stunting prevention in Indonesia," Marjuki said.
