Accelerating Poverty Handling in North Kalimantan, Social Affairs Minister Encourages Beneficiaries to Open Businesses to Go Global

TARAKAN (January 26, 2023) - Accelerating the handling of poverty is not only done by maintaining the purchasing power of poor people through social assistance. Another strategic policy is to increase their income.
In front of the beneficiaries of the Family Hope Program (PKH) social assistance in Tarakan, Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini emphasized the importance for them to build economic independence.
"We not only assist but also provide empowerment programs so that the capacity of fathers and mothers increases. (Apart from that, we also) provide (access to the world of) work that can increase income," said the Minister of Social Affairs in the PKH Consolidation and Providing ATENSI Assistance activities in the City Tarakan, North Kalimantan Province, Wednesday (25/1).
On that occasion, the Minister of Social Affairs also disseminated Nusantara Economic Hero (PENA). This program targets young PKH KPM to be motivated and choose the path of building entrepreneurship, not depending on social assistance.
Therefore, PENA is also expected to contribute to efforts to accelerate poverty alleviation. To KPM, the Minister of Social Affairs provided motivation and invited them not to hesitate to develop their business.

The Minister of Social Affairs revealed how to make startups successful in penetrating the market, such as good processing, attractive packaging, and healthy preservation. "If necessary, take part in training with expert guidance so that the product can go overseas," said the Minister of Social Affairs.
By building a successful business, in the end, you can prepare your children for a good future. "Ladies and gentlemen can provide higher education for the nation's future children," she said.
Member of Commission VI DPR RI Deddy Yevri Hanteru Sitorus, who was also present on this occasion, said that the Ministry of Social Affairs was not only responsible for assisting but also inviting residents to think creatively and productively to get out of the cycle of poverty.
In 2022, the PKH social assistance distributed in North Kalimantan worth a total value of IDR 54,307,250,000. Meanwhile, in Tarakan City, the assistance is worth IDR15,050,550,000.
