BOGOR (June 28,
2021) – No one knows
the way of life of a person. That's how Adi (37) felt, one afternoon in the
cloudy sky of Rain City.
For the past two
years, he has been steadily devoting himself as a counselor to Victims of Drug
Abuse (KPN) at "Galih Pakuan" Center.
However, who would
have thought that the KPN Counselor, had been in the 'black' valley full of
'unlawful' goods as a former KPN from a young age.
"So, I have
known the drug since 2002 and was a user until 2015," said the man from
Riau, Pekanbaru.
Adi's life becomes
a messy mess, such as regressive changes with difficulty thinking clearly and
often conflicts, both in social and personal life.
The conditions
were bitter when the wife asked for a divorce, the children and friends drifted
away. "In the eyes of my family, I was considered as “a trash”, recalled
Adi, bitterly.
Despite the
negative stigma attached to Adi, the family did not give up by sending Adi to a
drug rehabilitation center in West Java.
"At that
time, I went through a process of almost a year and then I went home and a few
months ago it relapsed again," explained Adi.
In the relapse
situation, Adi feels that he is increasingly unable to control his use of
drugs, so the chaos in all aspects of his life is getting worse.
The family
returned to the drug rehabilitation center, but previously Adi had felt the
cold of the prison due to illicit goods in 2016.
"On November
16, 2016, my family made the final decision to send me to the Galih Pakuan
Rehabilitation Center in Bogor," said Adi.
As soon as he
stepped foot in Galih Pakuan, Adi felt a sense of rejection because this father
of two had not yet accepted the fact that he had to be rehabilitated again.
"I don't
think this (rehabilitation) is needed, but there are other things, namely from
my outside environment," said Adi.
Thanks to the wholehearted approach of the Social Worker and Addiction
Counselor from "Galih Pakuan" Center slowly but sure Adi's confidence
and sense of love that had disappeared grew and blossomed.
The Social Rehabilitation Assistance Service
(ATENSI) provided to Adi starts from a Comprehensive Assessment to prepare data
on the needs and potential of Adi, a motivational approach to instill a mindset
of Adi that he needs help.
Then Adi also underwent
group therapy, individual counseling, mental spiritual therapy and no less
important is the Therapeutic Community. These therapies serve to increase the
courage to speak up and open up about the problem.
The concept of group
therapy is able to change Adi's mindset through an approach using group media,
in forming a frame of mind for Adi that he is able to rise to recovery,
organize a better future. While individual therapy functions to shape Adi's way
of thinking so that he is able to behave positively.
The concept of self-help
is an important key in the recovery process. In each therapy session, both
Social Workers and Addiction Counselors emphasize the importance of optimizing
each other's potential to help themselves from drug addiction. This also
applies to Adi.
Adi was also given
education by Social Workers and Addiction Counselors about relapse prevention
techniques. This session is very important for Adi so that he has the ability
to control himself so as not to relapse.
In the midst of his
rehabilitation, Adi was given the opportunity to develop his potential. Adi is
a person who is good at playing music. It is not uncommon for the Center to ask
for help when there are events that require musical performances. This is also
what makes Adi more confident.
"After two months
my mind began to open and my heart was touched by the approach of the counselor
and related parties at Galih Pakuan Center," recalled Adi.
Adi's positive energy
from Galih Pakuan is that the Center provides an opportunity to explore his
potential during his rehabilitation days.
"I was given the
space to find and explore my potential, including the belief in carrying out
responsibilities. That's what I never got in the outside environment because I
was always in doubt," he said.
The concept of therapy
for Adi through the recovery method at the Center basically includes the
cultivation of positive thinking patterns and the formation of self-commitment,
so that later it will be manifested in the form of positive behavior,
regardless of drug addiction, recovering, being responsible, able to carry out
their social roles, so that they can form patterns of good interaction for the
environment.
The happy news came at
the end of 2017, he was declared complete rehabilitation because of
satisfactory development results. He started thinking about becoming a
counselor.
Adi's decision to become
a counselor has been well thought out. He was given a few days to make a
historic decision in his life.
"I want to change
the negative stigma that has been attached to me and prove that I am not as bad
as they think," said Adi.
Adi officially became a
counselor at "Galih Pakuan" Center in 2019 after participating in two
recruitments and now he has handled more than 20 Beneficiaries (PM).
"There is a feeling
of happiness when I can see PM smiling again, seeing them return to the warmth
and love of family," said Adi.
In addition to being
able to rise from adversity and help ex-beneficiaries, he managed to strengthen
the relationship with a family that had fallen apart.
"Alhamdulillah,
my family and I are getting better. My mother is grateful to be able to
communicate again, as well as my children have found a father figure who was
once lost and now comes back and cares," Adi explained.
Adi's message to anyone,
especially the nation's young generation, is to never try and use drugs.
"Drugs are not a
solution, but just trap us in a bigger problem. Not only physically damage, but
also damage social and family relationships. Stop it now or regret it
later!," said Adi.
