JAKARTA (30 June 2021) - The Election Supervisory Board (Bawaslu) sees cooperation with the Ministry of Social Affairs regarding the participation of the younger generation in monitoring elections in Indonesia.
"We have written to the Social Minister for an audience regarding the cooperation between Bawaslu and the Ministry of Social Affairs regarding the role of the younger generation in participatory election supervision," said Deputy for Technical Support of Bawaslu, La Bayoni during an audience with the Social Minister Tri Rismaharini accompanied by the Minister's Expert Staff (SAM) for Social Welfare Technology, Andi ZA Dulung and Director General of Social Rehabilitation Harry Hikmat in Jakarta, Wednesday (30/6/2021).
Bawaslu is making strategic activities for Participatory Supervision Cadre Schools (SKPP) in 100 places in 514 regencies and cities by presenting participants from the younger generation who will be fostered in the participatory counseling.
"Recognizing election supervision with a very limited number of Bawaslu officers, we are partnering with social assistants to be involved in election supervision, so we propose how to foster people and the younger generation to be active in monitoring activities," Bayoni explained.
Bawaslu sees that the Ministry of Social Affairs has ranks from the provincial, regency and city levels that make for a strategic collaboration between the two institutions.
"One of the cooperation points is related to providing information to each other in an effort to help supervise the election," he said.
In addition to cooperating with SKPP, Bawaslu will involve social facilitators because the Ministry of Social Affairs has complete data. In the future, a memorandum of understanding or MoU will be made.
"All cooperation plans will be stated in the MoU which will include agreed points and will be determined by the Social Minister and the Chair of the Bawaslu," he said.
The Social Minister stated that Bawaslu invites public participation related to election supervision, including involving social welfare facilitators.
"There is a request from Bawaslu to maximize social welfare facilitators to be actively involved in organizing elections in Indonesia, but that is still a plan to be outlined in the MoU. The current meeting is just an assessment," concluded the Social Minister.
