JAYAPURA, SATURDAY (01/04/2023) - The Ministry of Social Affairs facilitated the mediation process for the care of three orphans. The three children from Jayapura City lost their caregiver after their mother, Siti, passed away.

Family members from the father's side intended to continue the care in another city. However, they differed with social volunteers, who passed on the deceased's message for the three children to remain in Jayapura. The Ministry of Social Affairs, through the Jayapura Social Welfare Education and Training Center (BBPPKS), brought the two parties together so that mutual understanding could be reached.

"We invite both parties to meet and talk heart-to-heart. In essence, we emphasize the importance of prioritizing the fulfillment of children's rights and growth and development," said the Head of BBPPKS, John Herman Mampioper in Jayapura recently.

This emphasized the importance of giving what the best for the children and will become the spirit of the Head of BBPPKS Administration, Malik Alim, while chairing the mediation meeting.

"There are two trusts of care here, the trust of care of a guardian who has a blood lineage, and a trust of care of a will based on the deceased's will. Both demand fulfillment. But it must be addressed wisely so the child does not become a victim," he said.

After two mediations, it was finally agreed that the three children would remain in Jayapura under the supervision of social volunteers who became guardians of the will. The children were considered to remain in Jayapura, among others, to continue their education.

In addition, the children already have a comfortable environment in Jayapura. Moving their domicile and care outside of Jayapura City will require adaptation that the children may not be able to follow.

However, the relationship between the children and their father's family must still be connected and maintained. "The relationship between these children and the family from the father's line must still be connected, it must not be broken," said Malik Alim.

Both parties also agreed to jointly implement this agreement. Furthermore, BBPPKS will continue to oversee this process to ensure that children are well cared for and the children's rights can be fulfilled.
