Being in a Landslide Prone Area, Minister of Social Affairs and the Regent of Tulungagung Agree to Move Residence to a Safer Location
Ministry of Social Affairs provides compensation to the heirs of the dead and injured victims
TULUNGAGUNG (October 28, 2022) - Minister of Social Affairs, Tri Rismaharini encouraged the Tulungagung Regency government to relocate people's residences that are prone to landslides. This effort is made to prevent the community from further risk. The Social Affairs Minister's statement was delivered when handing over compensation to victims of the landslide disaster in Nyawangan Village, Sendang District, Tulungagung Regency (28/10).
During the visit, Minister of Social Affairs listened to a report from the Regent of Tulungagung Maryoto Birowo regarding the range of locations that had a sloping contour. High rainfall intensity increases the risk of disasters in this area, especially landslides.
For this reason, further mitigation measures need to be taken immediately. "That's why I then conveyed it to the Regent. We had a meeting with Forkopimda or Region Leader Communication Forum, with the DPR, we agreed to move them to a safe place," said the Minister of Social Affairs.
For a short-term solution, the Minister of Social Affairs has prepared support assistance for safe evacuation sites. If it starts to rain heavily, at the selected point, residents can evacuate.
"For a while, when it rains, you can evacuate yourself, right? Later, my staff will fulfil their needs while they are evacuating," said the Minister of Social Affairs.
Furthermore, the mitigation efforts that have been discussed are finding safe land for settlement. The Minister of Social Affairs' efforts were also supported by the Minister of Environment and Forestry, Siti Nurbaya, who allowed Perhutani's land to be used for the relocation of residents.
If the location of Perhutani's land is far from residents, the Tulungagung Regency government will find safe land that can be acquired.
"I am waiting for the village head and also Forkopimda to decide where the location is. Now, if we build it, it will be fast, two and three months finished," said the Minister of Social Affairs.
The Minister of Social Affairs was present to hand over aid to the injured and compensation to the heirs. "We provide compensation, both for those who died and those who were injured. Serious injuries and minor injuries. The condition was also conveyed earlier," said the Minister of Social Affairs.
The Minister of Social Affairs handed over compensation to the 3 heirs of the victims who died each Rp. 15 million, seriously injured Rp. 5 million and lightly injured Rp. 2 million.
The landslide disaster in Nyawangan Village on Sunday (23/10) was caused by heavy rain accompanied by wind so that landslide material covered the road. Some residents took the initiative to clean the material so that the road can be used. Unfortunately, aftershocks came and left 3 people death, 1 seriously injured and 1 lightly injured.
Some of the victims who died were heads of families who left their children, both toddlers and school-aged children, so the Minister of Social Affairs also handed over a package of school supplies containing school uniforms, school bags, notebooks, stationery and school shoes.
On that occasion, the Minister of Social Affairs greeted one of the children from the landslide disaster victims and helped put on school shoes to try on. "Well, load the shoes, so go to school," said the Minister of Social Affairs, making the child blush.
The Minister of Social Affairs handed over 5 packages of school supplies, 5 packages of prayer equipment and 5 packages of basic necessities. The handover of aid was attended by the Regent of Tulungagung, the Head of the Tulungagung Regency Social Service and the Head of the Nyawangan Village.
