Children of Erosaman Asmat are Happy to Enjoy Electricity and the Internet
EROSAMAN (31 July 2022) - Arman (12 years old) and Salfina (13 years old) are happy, because their village, Erosaman, is now bright and can access the internet. They received assistance in the form of a Social Center, along with its equipment, from the Ministry of Social Affairs.
Erosaman, Papua is one of the locations for the 2022 National Children's Day series. This is because the Minister of Social Affairs, Tri Rismaharini wants all children, without exception, to have the same rights, the right to be protected, creative, active and happy.
Erosaman is one of three villages in Asmat Regency, Papua that received Social Center assistance, complete with other supporting facilities, such as solar cell lighting, 82-inch Smart TV, Standing TV, Home Theater, satellite dish and internet quota.
Apart from that, the Social Center is also equipped with folding study tables, notebooks, drawing books, crayons, pencils, puzzles, Catholic books, ethics books, blackboards, bookcases, kitchen equipment, and carpets.
"I'm happy being able to study and have access to the internet. When I grow up, I want to be a teacher," said Salfina, a fourth-grade student at Inpres Kumurai Elementary School, Amkum Village, Derkoumur District, Asmat.
This Social Center, then, is managed and cared for by the village head and is used daily by the children to play and study together.
The series of National Children's Day (HAN) in 2022 was held by the Ministry of Social Affairs, not only in East Lombok, which was lined up to be the highlight of the event but also at several points, including the location of remote indigenous communities.
Arman and Salfina, are only two of dozens of children in their village who have benefited from the assistance provided by the Ministry of Social Affairs.
Their joy increased because, during the 2022 HAN commemoration, Erosaman Village became one of the places where the HAN commemoration was held in Asmat Regency. During the week, they took part in a series of activities starting from morning exercises, learning to bathe and brush their teeth, learning to read and count, colouring, watching TV together, eating together, playing football, and playing other traditional games.
"I learn how to brush my teeth so that they are clean from food residue," said Salfina, pointing to her clean teeth in front of her friends.
Accompanied by their school teachers, the children enthusiastically participated in health education on how to wash their hands properly, take a clean bath with soap, always maintain a clean and healthy lifestyle, and eat nutritious food.
Children in Erosaman Village during this year's HAN commemoration activities also received packages of school uniforms, books, nutritious foods and drinks, traditional game equipment, as well as packages of clothing and toiletries that they can use daily.
The children’s joy lit up their enthusiasm for studying and achieving their goals. Because the future of Papua, Indonesia rests on their shoulders.
