Commemorating National Heroes Day 2022, the Minister of Social Affairs Emphasizes Heroic Spirit as Energy to Overcome Various Nation's Challenges

JAKARTA (10 November 2022) - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin acted as Inspector of Ceremonies in commemoration of National Heroes Day in 2022. Accompanied by Mrs Wury Estu Handayani, the Vice President led the implementation of the National Pilgrimage Ceremony at the National Main Heroes Cemetery (TMPNU) Kalibata.


The commemoration took the theme "My Hero, My Role Model". The commemoration was also meant to remember and honor the sacrifices and struggles of the heroes in defending independence; strengthen national unity and integrity; and increase the sense of love and pride for the motherland.


Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini when giving a speech at the event stated that through the spirit of "Recover Together, Recover Stronger", it is hoped that National Heroes' Day 2022 will become a momentum to revive awareness of all elements of the nation to strengthen national unity and integrity.


"Let's put forward the spirit of helping others regardless of differences; respect each other and defend the independence with beneficial things for the progress of the nation," The Minister said.


The Minister emphasized that implementing heroic values is one of the assets to build the nation. "We can become heroes starting from ourselves, our families and the environment. Make the spirit and values of heroism an inspiration in every step of our lives," she said.


77th year of independence yet Indonesia is dealing with various challenges to create a prosperous society. "Let's eradicate ignorance and poverty. Fight against efforts to divide the nation such as radicalism. We will grow and develop a spirit of cooperation for our future," she said.


Another challenge is global warming which triggers various natural disasters, as well as the scarcity of food, energy and clean water. The Minister called on all elements of the nation to increase preparedness for disasters, including the Covid-19 outbreak, as well as the scarcity of resources.


"Let's fight together with sincerity. We have all the sources to become a winning nation. Let's move together and move forward together with the determination to win. Sekali merdeka, tetap merdeka," said the Minister.


As to meet the needs and strengthen food diversity, the Minister offers a solution by developing and utilizing renewable energy. "Let's develop food sources based on potential and local wisdom, and manage water resources wisely. The security of water resources is expected to support the survival and livelihoods of current and future generations," she said.

The Minister admitted that this effort is not easy, but she is sure it could be done. "Because our heroes have set their example. They, in their time, taught us various values for us to inherit and follow so that the trail of victory will undoubtedly be in our hands," she said.
