NORTH BENGKULU (May 8, 2023) - Under the direction of the Social Affairs Minister Tri Rismaharini, the Ministry of Social Affairs responded quickly to the rape case in North Bengkulu. In collaboration with related parties, the Ministry of Social Affairs through the "Dharma Guna" Center in Bengkulu provided various services including trauma healing services.

This immoral act was carried out by a teacher (KM) at an elementary school in North Bengkulu. The number of victims is currently 30 children and is expected to increase.

"Under the direction of the Minister of Social Affairs, we have taken a number of steps. Among them are providing psychological graphic test services, trauma healing, group dynamics, relaxation therapy, psychological examinations, group counseling, health examinations and ATENSI assistance. We are also working with Law Enforcement Officers (APH) to ensure that the perpetrators receive appropriate legal sanctions," said the Head of the Dharma Guna Center in Bengkulu, Syam Wuryani in Bengkulu (08/05).

Psychologically, the victims felt sad, ashamed, angry and disappointed with the perpetrators. Some victims and their parents are anxious if this case is known to many people. "From the psychological examination, there are several victims who have sleep disorders, there are emotional changes after the abuse they experienced," said Syam Wuryani.

Physically, the victims can still communicate and tell the story of what happened. The victims do their daily activities as usual; they socialize with their friends such as playing football, joking with their peers.

The victims' family has various socio-economic conditions. Some are well-off, but some are less well-off, and some are already included in the Social Welfare Integrated Data (DTKS). On average, the victims' parents work as oil palm farmers and laborers. "Currently, the family is still focused on restoring the child's psychosocial condition and the ongoing legal process for the perpetrator," he said.

To restore the psychological condition of the victims and their parents, together with the Soeprapto Bengkulu Mental Hospital and the Indonesian Association of Clinical Psychologists (IPK) Bengkulu Region, the Center Team collaborated and brought in Wendri Surya Pratama, M.Psi (Psychologist), dr. Norevia Euleryn, SPKJ (Psychiatrist) and Lucy Marturia Bangun, SPKJ (Psychiatrist).

"A total of 30 victims underwent psychological assistance and 30 parents underwent parenting skills. During the psychological assistance, psychologists and psychiatrists continued to try to dig up information about the victims," ​​he added.

Martha Leuwol, Head of the Administrative Sub-Division of the "Dharma Guna" Center in Bengkulu, motivated parents to remain strong in facing the disaster they experienced. "Parents must remain strong, provide trust and good supervision to their children, as long as they have good motivation for the future. I believe parents want the best for their children, as do we who give full attention to them," she said.

The center also provides psychosocial support to the victims' family with counseling and education related to future childcare.

The center encourages law enforcement to maximize the punishment for the perpetrator. Currently, the perpetrator has been transferred to the North Bengkulu Police and the investigation process is still being developed with the suspicion that there are still other victims who are afraid or reluctant to report.

The North Bengkulu Police said that the perpetrator would be charged with Article 82 Paragraph 1 Jo 76E of Law Number 35 of 2002 concerning Child Protection with a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison. Sub Article 292 of the Criminal Code concerning molestation of children of the same sex, with a maximum sentence of 5 years in prison.

The North Bengkulu District Attorney's Office through the Head of the General Crimes Section Nelly, SH, MH stated its willingness to provide the fairest demands in accordance with the severity of the crime committed by the perpetrator.

The victims' parents hope that after receiving services, the children can regain their trust and continue to feel safe in their environment.

The services and attention provided are a real form that the Ministry of Social Affairs through the "Dharma Guna" Center in Bengkulu is present for the community and will oversee the case until it is resolved.

Ulok Kupai Sub-district Head Abdul Hadi said he would continue to participate in monitoring the case, "In the future, if there are changes to the children, you can report them to the village, then the village will report them to us, and we will report them to the government. Once again, let's stay strong and enthusiastic for the sake of the children's future and self-confidence," he said.
