JAKARTA (April 4th, 2024) – A teenager from Palembang, Muhammad Rafli Fahrezi (17), initially gave up on himself due to the illness he was suffering from. An operation on the part of the leg which was diagnosed as a tumor and carried out two years ago in Palembang, aggravated the wound on his leg, instead of healing.
When his hope faded and he almost gave up, he found "Budi Perkasa" Center in Palembang belonging to the Ministry of Social Affairs (MoSA). MoSA team came to his house and then took Rafli for treatment in Jakarta on February 25th, 2024. A month later, on Tuesday, March 26th, 2024, Rafli completed his fifth control at Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo (RSCM) Hospital, Jakarta. Before being brought to Jakarta, Rafli underwent several examinations at health facilities in Palembang.
Rafli's meeting with MoSA began with his story published in the mass media at the end of January 2024. Rafli needed donors to pay for treatment for a disease in his leg that would not heal. His leg swelled again after surgery two years ago in Palembang. His body temperature was high, but Rafli always felt cold.
Rafli's mother, Yusdiana (42), who is a single mother, cannot afford all of Rafli's medical expenses. Every day, Yusdiana works odd jobs to meet her and Rafli's needs with minimal income.
The Head of "Budi Perkasa" Center in Palembang, Gini Toponindro, said he immediately dispatched a team to respond to the case. "The Minister's direction was to be followed up immediately. So, on February 1st, the team immediately went to Rafli's residence," he said.
MoSA provided assistance to fulfill a decent life in the form of basic needs and entrepreneurship assistance in the form of a business selling three kilograms of LPG, as well as a mobile phone credit sales counter for Yusdiana.
Rafli's education also became a concern of MoSA. "Budi Perkasa" Center in Palembang had coordinated with SMA Bina Warga 2, where Rafli attends school, to convey that in the meantime, Rafli would be taken for treatment to Jakarta. The school was very cooperative, even facilitating online learning while Rafli was undergoing treatment in Jakarta.
After a month in Jakarta, Rafli felt there was progress in the treatment process. "Thank God, after being taken to Jakarta, my condition improved, I wasn't as sick as before. A CT scan was also carried out to diagnose my illness," he said when met at "Handayani" Center in Jakarta, on Sunday (31/3).
During the treatment process at RSCM, Rafli's accommodation and needs were met by "Handayani" Center in Jakarta. "I am very happy and feel helped, especially apart from medical assistance for me, my mother also received a lot of help. Thank you, MoSA for helping us," concluded him.
