CIANJUR (17 December 2022) - Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini wants orphans (YAPI) whose parents died as a result of the Cianjur earthquake to pursue their dreams. The statement was made when the Social Minister met face-to-face with children receiving YAPI assistance at the Cianjur earthquake evacuation post in Jagaraksa Warungkondang Field, Friday (16/12).

"Don't you drop out of school, ok? Keep on studying and put your dreams as high as the stars. Don't let this disaster destroy all of your futures," said the Minister who was greeted with nods from the children present.

The Cianjur earthquake not only left deep sorrow for the affected residents but also caused children to lose parental care. Since the earthquake hit Cianjur on 21 November, the Ministry of Social Affairs (MoSA) has recorded at least 30 children who lost their parents in the earthquake. The children have been given YAPI assistance in the form of savings with a value of IDR 200,000 per month.

MoSA will also give the same assistance to 135 other YAPI children in Cianjur, whose parents died not because of the earthquake. YAPI children's data collection in Cianjur is still ongoing so it is likely that the number of YAPI children will increase.

One of the beneficiaries, Yara, admitted that she was happy and did not expect to meet the Minister of Social Affairs in person. Yara felt motivated to continue learning after hearing the motivation from the Minister.

Yara expressed her gratitude for the attention given to her. "I am very grateful for the attention of the Minister. Thank you, Mrs Risma, for your continuous concern. I hope that Mrs Risma will always be healthy and happy," said Yara.

The Minister visited Cianjur to see the current condition of the earthquake survivors. Risma checked the condition of public kitchens, evacuation tents, and woven products made by earthquake survivors, and at the same time provided YAPI assistance in the form of savings and school equipment.

Apart from the Jagaraksa Field, Risma also checked the condition of the evacuees in the Cariu Field, Mangunkerta Village, Cugenang District.
