LUMAJANG (22 April 2024) - The cold lava flood that struck numerous locations in Lumajang District caused grief to some of its citizens, particularly the relatives and families of the three victims who died as a result of the calamity. Fathur Rokhim (38) was one among those who had to take the bitter pill. This Sumber Urip Village resident lost his wife as a result of the calamity that occurred on Thursday (4/18).

The grief is still evident on his face as he recounts the chronology of the incident that befell his wife at that time. He did not have time to help his wife who had asked to open the door.

"At that time, I was sleeping. Suddenly my wife knocked, asking to open the door. I opened the door. I wanted to help, but when I turned around, she was gone, I didn't have time to help," he lamented.

The same grief was also felt by Edi Suryanto (28). This man had to lose both of his parents. The motorcycle they were riding slipped into the river when the bridge collapsed due to the cold lava.

"At that time, my father and mother were coming home from therapy around 9.30 PM. We got information from the residents about the incident around 10.00 PM, that they fell from the bridge," he said sadly.

Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini also had the opportunity to meet the heirs of the three victims who died on Monday (22/4). In addition to providing moral support, the Minister compensated each deceased victim with IDR15,000,000.

Despite their anguish, these heirs found time to express their gratitude to Minister Risma, who personally visited them and conveyed her condolences. They were also grateful for the compensation and assistance provided by the Ministry of Social Affairs (MoSA).

"I am grateful, Alhamdulillah. Thank you for the assistance; may it be beneficial to my parents," Edi expressed gratitude after being visited by Minister Risma.
