HDI 2022 Series, MoSA Strengthens Inclusive Services for People with Disabilities

SUBANG (8 December 2022) - Ministry of Social Affairs handed over Social Assistance (ATENSI) simultaneously at 31 Centers throughout Indonesia.  This activity is a series of activities commemorating the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (HDI) 2022 which is celebrated every December 3.

 

 HDI 2022 carries out the national theme Meaningful Participation Towards Sustainable Inclusive Development.  In line with the direction of Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini, the HDI commemoration is not just a ceremony but is held to have a real impact on society.

 

 "So, this is all done with more emphasis on social services, not just ceremonial," said Director General of Social Rehabilitation Pepen Nazaruddin, who was present representing Minister of Social Affairs, when stating media crew at Rawalele Subang Health Center, Thursday (8/12  ).

 

 This activity is carried out in a hybrid platform.  Attendees throughout Indonesia were connected via Video Conference, with the main point in Subang Regency.

 

 In this regard, the 2022 HDI commemoration series was held by realizing the Indonesia Sees, Indonesia Hears, Indonesia Steps, Free from Stocks, and cataract surgery programs.  This program is a form of Ministry of Social Affairs' commitment to creating inclusive development for people with disabilities to achieve accessibility and equality.

 

 "Implementation includes providing hearing aid (ABD), mobility aid such as wheelchairs, aid for visual sensory disabilities such as adaptive canes, and cataract surgery," said Pepen.

 

 In detail, Pepen explained that the program was a form of Ministry of Social Affairs' commitment to paying attention to the diversity of types and needs of people with disabilities.  Through the Indonesia Sees Program, for example, Ministry of Social Affairs meets the need for assistive devices for people with visual sensory disabilities.  Namely in the form of an adaptive guide stick, a smart stick with a hot water sensor, and a cellphone that can talk.

 

 Meanwhile, Indonesia Steps is committed to helping people with physical disabilities in the form of distributing aid such as standard wheelchairs, special wheelchairs for people with cerebral palsy, wheelchairs for children with hydrocephalus, electric wheelchairs, adaptive wheelchairs, crutches, walkers, prosthetic legs,  Elbo stick, and three-wheeled motorcycle.

 

 Meanwhile, Free from Stocks is a program to remove stocks for people with mental disabilities.  "Freedom from stocks is carried out through outreach and education to the community, freeing ODGJ from stocks so that they can breathe free air again, as well as facilitating them to receive appropriate care," he said.

 

 Apart from the programs above, Ministry of Social Affairs also provides entrepreneurship assistance to open access for people with disabilities to achieve prosperity.  As for the 2022 HDI series, Ministry of Social Affairs has assisted worth IDR 15.1 billion which was distributed by 31 centers and integrated centers.

 

 Specifically in Subang, Ministry of Social Affairs, through Inten Suweno Integrated Center, handed over assistance worth IDR 603 million for Indonesia Sees, Indonesia Steps, and Indonesia Hears programs.  Meanwhile, cataract surgery was provided for 100 people and free of stocks for 15 people.

 

 In this activity, members of Commission VIII DPR RI Maman Imanul Haq, Deputy Regent of Subang Agus Masykur Rosyadi, Senior Advisor to the Minister of Social Affairs for Social Welfare Technology, Inspector General Dadang Iskandar, echelon II officials within Ministry of Social Affairs, and Forkopimda Subang Regency were present.
