Helping Tidal Flood Victims, MoSA Distributes Logistics Assistance and Establishes Public Kitchens
SEMARANG (May 25, 2022) - Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini instructed related ranks at the Ministry of Social Affairs (MoSA) to provide a quick response to tidal flood victims in Semarang City and affected cities along the North Coast of Java.
Following up on the directives of the Minister of Social Affairs, the Directorate of Social Protection for Natural Disaster Victims (PSKBA) together with the Disaster Preparedness Cadets (Tagana) and related agencies have implemented emergency response measures.
Tagana of Semarang City and its surroundings together with related agencies have identified and collected data on victims, evacuated victims from unsafe situations to safer places, distributed logistical assistance and set up public kitchens.`
Tagana is currently focusing on establishing a public kitchen to meet the basic needs of disaster survivors. “Currently we are focusing on the management of the public kitchen intending to meet basic needs," said Ginarto, a Semarang City Tagana personnel at the scene (25/05).
To meet the needs of the survivors, the Ministry of Social Affairs has established two main public kitchens and about 6 independent public kitchens. The main public kitchen was established in the District of East Semarang and the border (Semarang and Demak).
“At the border, we produce 6,000 packs of ready-to-eat food. And those in East Semarang District are 1,500 packs a day," he said.
In addition, MoSA through the Kartini Temanggung and Dr Soeharso Surakarta Integrated Center had distributed logistical assistance to disaster survivors in the area.
In Semarang City, the assistance provided was in the form of 900 blankets, 580 packages of baby clothing, 438 packages of baby diapers, 1,200 packages of adult clothing, 27 packages of foodware, 7 packages of kitchen utensils, 430 packages of kidswear, 28 packages of family kit, 2,900 packages of ready-to-eat food, 2,290 packages of children's meals, 1,980 packages of ready-to-eat side dishes.
For Demak Regency, the logistical assistance provided was in the form of 400 blankets, 600 packages of baby clothing, 438 packages of baby diapers, 400 packages of adult clothing, 100 packages of foodware, 10 packages of kitchen utensils, and 12 packages of kidswear.
Other assistance included 1,250 packages of ready-to-eat food, 1,620 packages of kid’s meals, 1,920 packages of ready-to-eat side dishes, 8 boxes of bottled water, 500 kg eggs and 100 boxes of instant noodles for the Social Office public kitchen at the Sayung Health Center.
