EAST MANGGARAI (February 12, 2023) - The Ministry of Social Affairs quickly responded to a struggling mother who cared for her four children alone. Her story went viral in the media because she had to struggle while her husband was experiencing mental disorders.
This tough woman, Agata Ladang, has lived a life with numerous challenges for the last six years. Economic difficulties caused Agata's husband, KH (40), to experience mental stress and even attempt suicide. KH was rescued, but since then he has been experiencing hallucinations and is indicated to be experiencing mental disorders.
Life must go on. Agata struggles alone to raise her 4 children by selling vegetables at Borong Market, Borong District, East Manggarai Regency. With an income of IDR500,000/month, this 41-year-old woman has to spend IDR2 million/year to lease a land where she trades.
With this income, Agata has difficulty paying for school fees for her four children who are currently in grade 11 of high school, grade 6 and grade 5 of elementary school, and kindergarten.
Based on the assessment results, the Ministry of Social Affairs immediately coordinated with the Renceng Mose Ruteng Mental Rehabilitation Home to refer KH who had been in stocks for six years. His family was forced to put him in stocks because his condition was aggressive and dangerous to other people.

However, because the Renceng Mose Ruteng Mental Rehabilitation Home is full, KH is temporarily being treated at home by administering medication regularly for the next 30 days and being monitored by the local government. This drug aims to reduce aggressiveness while waiting for a place to be available at the orphanage.
"The Ministry of Social Affairs ensures that Agata's family does not experience prolonged economic shocks, which will result in the emergence of new problems. The basic needs are ensured to be fulfilled, including the family's food, education, and health needs. So it is important that the family receives Family Hope Program (PKH) and Non-Cash Food Assistance (BPNT)," said Nursyamsu, the Acting Director of Social Rehabilitation for Persons with Disabilities of the Ministry of Social Affairs.
Nursyamsu added that it is also necessary for Agata's family to access health assistance such as BPJS support and educational support assistance from the Smart Indonesia Card (KIP). His party will also provide entrepreneurial support to ensure increased income.
Currently, the Ministry of Social Affairs has ensured that KH's basic needs are met by providing Social Rehabilitation Assistance (ATENSI). The assistance is rice, eggs, cooking oil, egg noodles, and soap.
Through the Directorate of Social Rehabilitation for Persons with Disabilities, the Ministry of Social Affairs, and the Kupang Efata Center as the Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) belonging to the Ministry of Social Affairs, they assist families. The Ministry of Social Affairs and his family have released KH from stocks.

In the future, the Ministry of Social Affairs will continue to accompany Agata's family. The Ministry of Social Affairs will try bringing KH to the psychiatric hospital in Kupang.
