JAKARTA (January 31st, 2024) – Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini was seen having an intimate talk with parents of children suffering from Biliary Atresia (liver disorder). The children were currently undergoing outpatient treatment at Rumah Singgah Satu Hati Foundation in Jakarta. The children's mothers felt happy and motivated to continue providing the best service to their children after being visited by the Minister of Social Affairs.

Biliary Atresia is a condition where the bile ducts do not form properly. The flow of bile is obstructed, as a result this retained bile will quickly damage the liver within 3 months.

There were 8 children currently undergoing treatment, 6 of whom were staying at Rumah Singgah Satu Hati Foundation in Jakarta. Besides, there was 1 child who lived separately in a boarding house after undergoing liver transplant treatment, and 1 other child was being treated at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM) Jakarta.

The ages of the children varied, from 2 months to 2.5 years old. They were MAS (2 months), S (5 months), A (5 months), N (8 months), MZ (8 months), SZ (8 months), AKD (9 months), and AAR (2.5 years old). At a glance, the condition of the child who was being treated was being fitted with a device for his nose.

The Minister was seen having interaction with AAR, inviting him to play with dolls and other toys. “What do you like? Wow, this is a fun toy! This toy can be recorded, you know... This is the baby doll, try feeding it, but not to feed it too much, or the baby doll's stomach will hurt," said Risma tried to have an interaction with AAR.

The Minister also directly inspected the condition of the infrastructure at the foundation. Some parents talked about their children's condition. The Minister also provided solutions to their various requests through a number of certain programs from the Ministry of Social Affairs (MoSA).

Knowing the condition, MoSA, through the Directorate of Child Social Rehabilitation, provided nutritional assistance in the form of milk for 8 children and biscuits for 1 child over 2 years old; Baby equipment in the form of diapers, bottle stimulator/sterilizer, wet and dry wipes, milk bottles, and bottle washing soap; Personal hygiene tools in the form of baby soap and shampoo, body lotion and telon oil; Basic necessities include rice, eggs, canned fish and oil; as well as Children's toys.

Besides basic needs, MoSA also provided assistance with infrastructure in the form of 7 cupboards, 7 beds measuring 200 x 120 centimeters, 4 units of AC, 2 fans, 4 carpets/mattresses, and 7 sheets of bed linen.

Representative of Rumah Singgah Satu Hati Foundation in Jakarta, Linda hoped that there would be continuity and good collaboration through this visit between MoSA and the foundation.

"I hope that in the future we can collaborate for children suffering from Biliary Atresia. It's not the needs that we want, but the attention and support from MoSA. By visiting Rumah Singgah Satu Hati is an extraordinary thing. Thank you, Mrs. Risma," said Linda.
