SLEMAN (July 21, 2022) - Ministry of Social Affairs provides motivation and education to 32 Children in Conflict with the Law (ABH) in Yogyakarta as a result of 'klitih' (street crimes) some time ago. This is a concrete manifestation of the Ministry of Social Affairs in strengthening commitment and support for social rehabilitation services for ABH.

"Our commitment and support for social rehabilitation services for ABH stems from concerns about the prevalence of juvenile delinquency in Yogyakarta, which is called 'klitih'," said Head of the Yogyakarta Social Welfare Education and Training Center (BBPPKS) Eva Rahmi Kasim.

'Klitih' is an aggressive behaviour carried out by a group of people intentionally to hurt someone. In the context of juvenile delinquency, 'klitih' is carried out by a group of students traveling around using vehicles targeting other school students who are considered enemies. According to data from Jogja Police Watch (JPW), until July 2022, there were 12 'klitih' actions in Yogyakarta with injured and dead victims.

Eva said that adolescence is in vulnerable age because their emotional levels are not yet stable. Teenagers are also in the age range that is full of demands for self-discovery. "This makes them easily influenced by deviant behaviour, such as the 'klitih' case, which occurred in Gudeg City some time ago," she explained.

Eva said that the beneficiaries, whose average age was teenagers, were then given motivation and education to leave any behaviour that violated the law. "We help the rehabilitation of the children through counselling with a youth approach," she said.

The services provided to ABH include psychological examination and counselling, social assistance and advocacy, as well as social counselling to change the behaviour of the beneficiaries for the better.

Delivered with Fun Activities

The provision of motivation and education to the beneficiaries, entitled 'Millennial Social Counselling', is packaged in the form of fun games by combining interactive and relaxing outdoor physical activities.

"We are trying to explore the enthusiasm and joy of Indonesian children, especially those at the Youth Social Protection and Rehabilitation Center (BPRSR) in Sleman," said Head of Administration for BBPPKS Yogyakarta, Ujang Taofik Hidayat, as the activity supervisor.

Ujang added that the activities were also interspersed with group games and reflective actions. "It is hoped that through these fun games, the beneficiaries can learn the importance of cooperation, cohesiveness, as well as the spirit of never giving up, so that they can support and have a commitment for 'Great Indonesian Children'," he said.

The motivation and commitment as Great Indonesian Children, which the facilitator delivered to the beneficiaries, is in line with the theme of National Children's Day (HAN) 2022, namely 'Protected Children, Advanced Indonesia'. In addition, this activity also aims to enliven the HAN 2022 commemoration, which is commemorated on July 23 every year.

The activity, which was initiated by BBPPKS Yogyakarta and in collaboration with the DIY Provincial Social Service, was attended by 32 youth beneficiaries (PM) at BPRSR Sleman and involved 11 facilitators who are Social Counsellors and Social Workers at BBPPKS Yogyakarta.

Head of BBPPKS Yogyakarta Eva Rahmi Kasim hopes to continue to contribute through BBPPKS Yogyakarta to overcome social problems by utilizing the potential of existing human resources for extension workers and social assistants.
