Ahead of the DTKJ Awards, Minister of Social Affairs Risma Proposes a 'City Car' Service for PwD in Jakarta
JAKARTA (17 November 2022) - Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini proposed that Jakarta should have a special City Car for persons with disabilities (PwD). This statement was conveyed during an audience with the ranks of the Jakarta Transportation Council (DTKJ) at the Office of the Ministry of Social Affairs, Jakarta, on Wednesday (16/11).
This proposal was in line with the DTKJ Awards which took the theme "Integrated Transportation Towards Inclusive Jakarta" which will be held on 22 November 2022.
The Minister said it is urgent to provide special transportation for PwD considering the diversity of disabilities with various needs.
"We have to fulfill transportation with easy access for PwD, not only for those who are physically challenged, but those who are blind, and others too," said Risma when having an audience with DTKJ.
Risma suggested that DTKJ could encourage relevant stakeholders to provide special buses serving various routes in the capital for PwD.
This also shows the commitment of the Government of Indonesia in implementing one of the points of the Jakarta Declaration on the Asian and Pacific Decade of Persons with Disabilities 2023–2032, which was approved by member countries of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP). Last October. One of the points of this commitment concerns the availability of accessibility for PwD, one of which is public transportation.
Meanwhile, Chairman of DTKJ Haris Muhammadun said that his party had initiated the DTKJ Awards as a barometer for organizing transportation for PwD. Therefore, it is hoped that this event can become a driving force for fulfilling the rights of PwD in transportation, especially in DKI Jakarta.
There will be two activities in the DTKJ Award. Among them is a discussion forum on integrated transportation towards the Inclusive City of Jakarta and the awarding of appreciation in seven categories to transportation operators who have provided disability-friendly infrastructure.
Also attending the audience were DTKJ members, namely Riko Bimo Ridjla Badri and Ajad Sudrajad.
