CIMAHI (March 24th, 2024) – Indonesia's geographical location makes this country in the disaster-prone category. In dealing with this, strong disaster mitigation is needed, one of which is by preparing human resources to respond to disasters. The establishment of Disaster Preparedness Villages (KSB) is one of the steps taken by the Ministry of Social Affairs (MoSA) in seeking maximum disaster mitigation.

Through KSB, MoSA seeks to involve all elements of society in dealing with disaster emergency situations. On Saturday (23/3), MoSA confirmed 60 KSB volunteers in South Cimahi District, Cimahi City, West Java Province. Komara Dewi (46) was one of them.

The woman who is often called Mara lives on Cihujung River which is prone to floods and landslides. Because of this, Mara was eager to get involved in disaster management. According to her, the community also needs to be involved to reduce disaster risks.

"I was eager to be a KSB volunteer because I wanted to make residents aware that the risk of the floods we often experience could be minimized," said the mother of two children.

Before the inauguration, the volunteers, who came from various backgrounds, were provided with material provision, as well as disaster simulation training for three days from Thursday (21/3) to Saturday (23/3).

Secretary General Robben Rico said that the formation of the KSB was one of the systematic steps of MoSA in mitigating disasters involving all elements of society.

"KSB is an extraordinary form of collaboration in order to anticipate and prepare our citizens to be prepared for disasters. It cannot just be (handled by) the central government only, but the role of regional governments and the community is also needed," said Robben.

The formation of the KSB received a positive response from the Acting Cimahi Mayor Dicky Saromi. Dicky hoped that volunteers can be at the forefront of the community in disaster preparedness, not only when a disaster occurs, but are involved in the efforts to prevent it.

"Hopefully the volunteers can be dedicated and make good use of the facilities provided by MoSA, not only when a disaster occurs, but also before in the form of outreach to the community," said him during the inauguration moment.

Simultaneously with the inauguration of the KSB, MoSA also established a social granary containing logistical needs to be utilized in urgent situations if a disaster occurs before aid arrives.

On that occasion, MoSA distributed assistance in the context of disaster preparedness and management in Cimahi City in the form of social granary in South Cimahi District, KSB formation facilities and Tagana Goes to School (TMS) facilities worth IDR 304,657,905.
