KUPANG CITY (May 12th, 2024) – "Efata" Center in Kupang conducted outreach to one of the Social Welfare Service Recipients (PPKS), namely Marselino Tasman, a seven month old baby without an anus (Atresia Ani) from Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province (NTT). To facilitate handling of the Beneficiary (PM), the baby was taken to the Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) "Efata" Center in Kupang belonging to the Ministry of Social Affairs (MoSA) to receive Social Rehabilitation Assistance (ATENSI) services.
Marselino's father, Hyronimus Tasman, said that this was the first time he had received assistance from the government, when his son experienced trials, after almost 50 years of his life. "I am touched and very grateful to MoSA because this is the first time I got attention and assistance from the government, especially when my child needed help with medical surgery. Thank God," said Hyronimus.
Furthermore, before getting help from MoSA, he was confused about where to ask for help. He didn't have the money for treatment. As a farm worker, his income is very minimal, moreover to pay for operations. “We don't have anything so we just prayed to God. Then, a relative asked me to video my child's condition, which finally went viral so many parties contacted to help, including MoSA," he said.
While at "Efata" Center in Kupang, Hyronimus received training in raising laying hens to increase his skills, which later became his source of income. From his efforts, every day, he can harvest eggs. “Raising laying hens has been going on for four months. The eggs are sold around Efata complex. The sales proceeds are good enough to send to families in the village and pay for children's school fees," he said.
Every morning, Hyronimus goes to the coop to give the chickens food. He feels that his business continues to grow and he understands more and more about how to raise laying hens. "I hope that the experience of raising laying hens at "Efata" Center in Kupang will continue in the village because I don't have a garden there," he said.
Apart from child care assistance and training in raising laying hens, Hyronimus also received various other assistance, and was given the opportunity to manage land to grow vegetables, sweet potatoes, cassava and corn by "Efata" Center in Kupang. “I hope the operation will be completed quickly so that we can return home soon. Thank you "Efata" Center in Kupang for helping us a lot. I just realized that life is not alone, but there is still MoSA that really cares," he concluded.
