BANDUNG (18 March 2021) - The
Minister of Social Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia (Mensos), Tri
Rismaharini challenged the students of the Bandung Social Welfare Polytechnic
(Poltekesos) to be able to solve social problems in Indonesia.
According to the Minister of
Social Affairs, the existing challenges must be answered by all the Bandung
Poltekesos academic community.
This was conveyed by the Minister
of Social Affairs while attending a public lecture at the Bandung Poltekesos
Campus with the theme "The Ministry of Social Affairs Policy of the
Republic of Indonesia in preparing prospective social workers in the
future". Bandung, (18/03/21)
"You students must go to
the field to see first hand the existing social problems and then find a
solution" explained the Minister of Social Affairs in front of the
students present.
According to him from an early
age, students should be taught to be directly involved in the field, because
that would be more beneficial.
Furthermore, the Minister of
Social Affairs said that he strongly agreed with the concept of an independent
campus that was carried out by Mendikbud Nadiem Makarim.
"Yesterday I had a
meeting with the Minister of Education and Culture, we had a chance to discuss
about an independent campus, I think it's a good concept that can also be
applied in this campus" said the Minister of Social Affairs.
On this occasion the Minister
of Social Affairs also provided motivation to the entire academic community who
were present. The mother of two children said that nothing is impossible in
life.
"In this life there is
nothing that is impossible, those who are willing or unwilling. So if you have
hope and ideals, do not ever give up," concluded the Minister of Social
Affairs.
The need for prospective
professional social workers is very important in the development of social
welfare. Therefore, various policies need to be outlined, especially with the
development of higher education institutions to produce reliable, competent,
and professional social worker candidates.
At the same opportunity, in
his report, the Head of the Education Research and Social Counseling Agency
(BP3S) Syahabuddin said that if Law Number 14 of 2019 concerning Social Workers
was passed, it had made a "milestone".
"With the existence of
this Social Security Law, we will show the existence of the status of the
social work profession in Indonesia, we will prove our role in the development
of social welfare in Indonesia," said the Head of BP3S.
The Head of BP3S also
expressed his hope that graduates of the Bandung Poltekesos are ready and able
to take part in various lines of social services.
