BANJARBARU (19 June 2021) — To improve services for people with disabilities, member of Commission VIII DPR RI Syaiful Rasyid called on regional governments to increase its synergy with the Ministry of Social Affairs. Especially so that people with mental disorders can continue their socio-economic functions after rehabilitation from the Ministry of Social Affairs.

“I appreciate the skills services carried out in this Center. Here the beneficiaries gain socio-economic skills. The regional government needs to prepare them to carry out their social functions, as well as to prepare the community to accept them back," said Syaiful Rasyid during his visit to Balai Budi Luhur Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan (18/06).

Syarif was present at one of the Technical Implementation Units (UPT) of the Ministry of Social Affairs accompanied by the Director of Social Rehabilitation for Persons with Disabilities Eva Rahmi Kasim. Also present were the Mayor of Banjarbaru, represented by the Assistant for the Economy and Welfare Development, the Head of the South Kalimantan Provincial Social Office and the Head of the Banjarbaru City Social Office.

Syarif appreciated the skills service for people with mental disorders (ODGJ) which was held at Budi Luhur Center. He also supports the Ministry of Social Affairs' plan to increase the function of the center with integrated services with programs of the Ministry of Social Affairs and with other agencies.

After witnessing the services at Budi Luhur Center, the member of the Gerindra faction of South Kalimantan realized the importance of social rehabilitation services. "The center serving people who are stigmatized or marginalized," he said.

Further, he said that treating only the physical health of the ODGT was not enough and that we need to strengthen their social rehabilitation involving the regional government. "Social rehabilitation involves preparing the ODGJ to finally be able to return and carry out their social functions in the community as well as preparing the community to accept them back," he added.

On the same occasion, Eva Rahmi Kasim in her speech explained that the implementation of ATENSI has 7 direct components, namely support for fulfilling a decent life, social care and/or child care, family support and therapy (physical, psycho-social and mental-spiritual therapy), vocational training, entrepreneurship development, social assistance, as well as accessibility support.

"I hope that the regional government will cooperate in implementing the program of Respect, Protection and Fulfillment of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, for example in the preparation of Regional Action Plans for Persons with Disabilities," said Eva.

On this occasion, ATENSI assistance as much IDR 432,000,000,- was given to People Needing Social Welfare Services (PPKS) in Banjarbaru City, Balangan Regency, Hulu Sungai Selatan Regency and the Banjar Regency Education and Support Foundation for Disabled Persons in the form of one steam washing machine for Daycare Program Beneficiaries.
