Through PENA Workshop, MoSA Strengthens the Empowerment of Beneficiary Graduates

JAKARTA (January 26th, 2023) - There was something different in “Mulya Jaya” Flats at the Ministry of Social Affairs (MoSA) in Jakarta on Friday (26/1). Hundreds of people consisting of social companions, Beneficiary Family (KPM) Graduates, as well as residents of flats and “Mulya Jaya” Center in Jakarta were seen crowding the flats. They seemed enthusiastic about exploring knowledge to strengthen empowerment through Nusantara Economic Hero (PENA) Workshop which was held from 26 to 28 January 2024.

Special Staff to the Minister for the Requirement of Social Welfare Services and Potential Sources of Social Welfare, Luhur Budiharjo Lulu, who was also present in the Design Class, gave tips so that the KPM Graduates' businesses could continue to progress. He asked for them to do simple research by listening to consumer opinions. These criticisms and suggestions were very useful for strengthening the business that KPMs was building.

“Do you want any progress? Listen to the consumers. Bring them your product, seblak for example, take it to your neighbors. Listen to their criticism and suggestions to make the product better," said him.

PENA Workshop was attended by 303 social assistants consisting of Family Hope Program (PKH) Companions, Social Companions and District Social Welfare Workers (TKSK), 179 residents of Sentra “Mulya Jaya” in Jakarta and 64 KPM Graduates. Participants who attended were divided into six training classes provided by MoSA.

Two kinds of training sessions: Cooking and Sewing/Handicraft Class, were attended by residents of the “Mulya Jaya” Center in Jakarta. A total of 133 residents seemed enthusiastic about taking part in the first day of training where they were taught to make contemporary drinks and Cromboloni. Meanwhile, in the sewing and handicrafts class, 46 residents were learning to make hotel slippers, even though many of them had never sewn at all.

It looked different with the Fine Arts Class. This class, which was attended by 64 KPM Graduates from Jakarta and Tangerang, provided training participants with a deeper understanding of branding and packaging, as well as simple research.

Meanwhile, Cocial Companions take three classes with different training themes such as photography and videography, digital marketing, simple research and financial literacy. By having an understanding of these things, the companions are expected to be able to accompany the beneficiaries more optimally.

The Head of the Center for Education, Training and Professional Development, Afrizon Tanjung revealed that this workshop was a way to increase the capacity, not only of ASN at MoSA, but also of social companions and the community. With these training, it is hoped that companions can share the knowledge they gained, and ultimately can help people become independent more quickly.

"We hope that the programs carried out by MoSA will increase capacity. We cannot just strengthen the community, but we also need to strengthen the companions. Increasing the capacity of companions is also needed to help the community become independent quickly," concluded Afrizon.
