Minister of Social Affairs Invites Social Welfare Polytechnics to Make Use of Technology
BANDUNG (April 25th, 2024) – Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini invited the entire Social Welfare Polytechnic (Poltekesos) academic community to be open to science and continue to utilize technology. According to her, there should be no satisfaction in developing knowledge since social problems will continue to emerge and develop according to human civilization.
"Along with the development of human civilization, social problems will also continue to emerge," said the Minister while giving speech at the Open Senate Session for the Inauguration of Professors at Poltekesos, Thursday (25/4). On this occasion, Prof. Ellya Susilowati, M.Si, Ph.D, was confirmed as the first professor at Poltekesos. Ellya Susilowati is a Professor in the Field of Social Work with a focus on Children and Women.
The Minister gave an example, along with modernization, technological progress and the improvement of society's economy, human civilization also increases. However, in line with this, social problems will also arise. For example, various online crimes and online pornography. "Therefore, along with technological advances, social problems also develop," said her.
In accordance with this, the Minister advised Poltekesos academic community to have the courage to think about various solutions as social science is the most complex one. The Minister hoped that by rich knowledge of solutions, the academic community can solve social problems that arise as a result of development or change.
The Minister also advised all members of the Senate, guests and students who attended the professor's inauguration event not to give up easily. Even though, they encounter many difficulties when studying and applying social sciences, they need to keep trying their best as the benefits are felt by many people.
Prof. Ellya, in her professorial inauguration oration, highlighted the importance of a holistic approach in social work practice to deal with various social problems. For example, in dealing with Sexual Violence against Children (KSA), according to her, the basic principles of social work, including case identification, ensuring child safety, referral and emotional support, education of children, working in cross-professional teams, and involving the community in the treatment process, need to be integrated.
She also appreciated the presence of MoSA Command Center at 171, which has accelerated the handling of KSA cases, while hoping that the presence of Command Center will also encourage the public to report it, so that it is hoped that the handling of KSA cases can be carried out completely.
