JAKARTA (11 November 2022) - Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini invites students to emulate heroic values, especially courage. This was conveyed during a dialogue with hundreds of students and teachers from various regions in Indonesia who were present at the Kalibata Heroes Cemetery Convention Building, South Jakarta, Friday (10/11).

By the theme "My Hero, My Role Model", the Minister aroused a sense of nationalism in students to apply heroic values in life. This former Mayor of Surabaya stood for about an hour with great enthusiasm to encourage students who were present.

During the dialogue, Risma said students as successors of heroes will continue the nation's struggle to actualize social welfare. For this reason, Risma encourages students to be brave in facing problems and difficulties, especially against increasingly challenging global competition.

"This nation needs you so that you can bring (us) on par with other nations in the world," the Minister said, which was greeted with thunderous applause from the participants present.

In front of reporters, she stressed the importance of students understanding that the battlefield in modern times is no longer by taking up arms, but by the war against poverty and ignorance. For this reason, through this activity, she wants Indonesian children to grow with strong character.

"Therefore, we teach these children (the value of heroism). It is hoped that they will be role models to others and have a strong character," she said.

Another heroic value that Risma mentioned was tenacity. She inspired students not to be afraid and not to give up facing limitations, failures and obstacles in achieving their goals, just like heroes who were able to repel armed invaders with sharpened bamboo only.

"More importantly, because of the persistence of our heroes and the confidence that we have power, our nation can be independent," she said.

Another example that Risma emphasizes was a selfless struggle. She said the heroes fought with all their might and strength for the cause of independence. She then gave an example of the struggle of Cut Meutia and her husband who died on the battlefield.

The activity was held for one day with various interesting activities, such as hero tales, pilgrimages with the Minister of Social Affairs, and watching hero’s journey movies.
