Minister of Social Affairs Distributes Compensation for Victims of Garut Landslide in Talagajaya

GARUT (May 1, 2024) - Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini visited Talagajaya Village, Banjarwangi Subdistrict, Garut Regency to review the public kitchen and evacuation post for Talagajaya landslide victims on Tuesday (30/4). In addition, the Minister also handed over compensation to the 3 heirs of the dead and 6 injured victims due to landslides.

The heirs received Rp15,000,000 per victim, while each injured victim received Rp5,000,000. Social Affairs Minister Risma also revealed that assistance in the form of public kitchens and evacuation camps will continue to stand as long as the affected residents are still in need.

"This assistance does not stop here. It will continue until they finish evacuating, until relocation," said Risma.

Social Affairs Minister Risma also directly observed the condition of the landslide survivors at the evacuation post. In addition to greeting the victims, Risma also gave school bags, toys, and snack packages to children living in evacuation camps.

Hamdan (61), one of the refugees was happy when his grandchildren received the gifts from Social Affairs Minister Risma. Hamdan, who has been staying at the post since Friday (4/26), also feels grateful for the facilities provided by the Ministry of Social Affairs at the evacuation post.

"Alhamdulillah, there are mattresses and blankets, and we get three meals a day. Thank you, hatur nuhun Ministry of Social Affairs," said Hamdan.

At the end of her visit, Social Affairs Minister Risma also had a dialog with the local government and the personnel of the Disaster Preparedness Village (KSB). The Minister urged residents and KSB to always be alert and evacuate, especially when it rains because they do not know when landslides will occur. Risma also called for more KSBs to be assisted, especially in disaster-prone areas.
