Minister of Social Affairs Visits Bogor Residents who Have Been Paralyzed for a Dozen Years

BOGOR (July 14, 2023) - A middle-aged woman, Enur Hayati (66) from Pamijahan Bogor who has been paralyzed for dozens of years was finally referred by the Ministry of Social Affairs to Leuwiliang Hospital.  Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini immediately visited Enur, who had just been referred by Galih Pakuan Bogor Center this morning (14/7).

The Minister of Social Affairs said that the Ministry of Social Affairs knew about Enur's condition through routine media scanning that was reported this morning and immediately asked the support center to carry out an assessment.  "This information is from the media. Thank you for providing us with information. Earlier I had asked the head of center for an assessment and then taken her to this hospital," she said while stating to the media at the Leuwiliang Regional Hospital, on Thursday  (14/7).

Initially, Minister Risma planned to visit Enur's house in Ciasihan Village, Pamijahan District, Bogor Regency to check on the condition of Enur's family.  Apart from Enur, their second daughter Iin (15) has had Down Syndrome since she was born.  "It turned out that there were two who were sick, the daughter and her mother. But it turned out that Center Head was able to bring her to the hospital. Thank God, and now she is being assessed again for illness," said the Minister.

The Minister of Social Affairs said the Ministry of Social Affairs would help complete the needs while in the hospital, especially the management of Enur's Health BPJS and family.  According to her, the Ministry of Social Affairs' current focus is medical care for Enur and Iin.  Furthermore, the Minister of Social Affairs will provide assistance to fulfill a decent life.

"Earlier there were requests from Enur, especially for the continuity of her life. Especially for her livelihood," she said.

Enur has been paralyzed since 1982 as a result of falling from the second floor.  Since then, this mother of two children has walked with the help of crutches.  However, in 2020 her condition worsened to the point that she could not walk and did her daily activities by crawling.

During this time, Enur was cared for by her first child, Nurdin Haerudin (32) who worked in a cooperative with a salary of IDR 500 thousand per month.  To help the family's economy, Enur sells small necessities with an income of IDR 50 thousand per day.  Enur separated from her husband when Iin was 5 years old, and since then she has raised her two children alone.

Meanwhile, Galih Pakuan Bogor Center provided Social Rehabilitation Assistance (ATENSI) in the form of four-legged walkers, nutritional fulfillment, necessities, personal hygiene kits, and cash for hospital operations.  Then the Center will carry out a follow-up assessment for the provision of assistive devices in the form of a wheelchair that follows the conditions and contours of the land and the geographical situation of Enur's home environment.  The Minister of Social Affairs also directed that Enur's family be provided with entrepreneurship assistance and the Integrated Prosperous House (RST) program.
