LHOKSUKON (28 May 2024) - Social Affairs Minister Tri Rismaharini mobilized all technical implementation units (UPT) of the Ministry of Social Affairs (MoSA) to carry out a series of activities to commemorate National Elderly Day (HLUN) and the Anniversary of the Disaster Response Volunteer (Tagana) in North Aceh. The team, consisting of the UPTs in Jakarta and other regions, and Tagana from the Sumatra and Java regions, arrived in North Aceh on 10 May 2024.

"MoSA has been involved since mid-May to conduct assessments and monitor the event. All centers in Sumatra and Java are participating," said Social Affairs Minister Risma, on Tuesday (28/5).

All UPTs are spread across 27 districts in North Aceh and are responsible for providing treatment to the elderly, according to the assessment results. This distribution allows MoSA to reach all elderly people in need at the village level. At the peak event on 29 May, elderly people from 27 districts will be connected to the main venue at the North Aceh Regent's Office via video conference. Aside from North Aceh, certain UPTs celebrated HLUN in ten other locations in eastern Indonesia, including Papua and East Nusa Tenggara.

MoSA team has carried out a series of activities. For example, from 16 - 21 May 2024, the team and the North Aceh Population and Civil Registration Office (Disdukcapil) registered Indonesian identity cards directly at the houses of 31 elderly who were paralyzed and did not have residency documents. Meanwhile, on 25-26 May 2024, MoSA collaborating with ENT professionals performed ear, nose, and throat (ENT) tests and audio examinations, as well as providing hearing aids to 200 elderly. MoSA also offers free health screenings, including joint examinations and health therapy.

Teams in each district have also distributed various assistance. Some of these include assistance in providing a decent living, furnishing rooms and kitchens for the elderly and distributing assistive devices such as wheelchairs, canes and glasses. Many potential elderly also received vocational training assistance and business development capital.

Furthermore, the MoSA team also built Integrated Urban Water Management in two locations, namely Baktiya District and Stepan District as well as an elderly park in Lhoksukon District, North Aceh Regency. The Tagana have also been working in North Aceh to build Integrated Welfare Houses (RST) for the elderly.
