Minister Risma Shares Social Welfare Programs to JCI Members

SURABAYA (1 November 2023) -  Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini discussed her experiences in addressing social welfare issues at the 2023 National Convention of Junior Chamber International (JCI) held at Shangri-La Hotel, Surabaya, on Wednesday (1/11). JCI is a national youth organization that is non-political and non-secretariat. It is also affiliated with the United Nations (UN), which is the largest international youth organization.

The organization is a global community for young adults between the ages of 18 and 40, dedicated to creating a positive influence on the world.

In front of JCI members, Minister Risma encouraged the youth to actively participate in initiatives designed to enhance social welfare.   She hosted a range of programs organized by Ministry of Social Affairs (MoSA) aimed at enhancing the self-reliance of beneficiaries. One of the programs is Nusantara Economic Hero (PENA).

The program focuses on individuals who receive social assistance and are in their productive age.   Since the President's approval in November 2022, thousands of beneficiaries have successfully graduated from social assistance programs, leading to a significant reduction in extreme poverty.

Minister Risma also talked about the demography bonus that Indonesia is projected to experience in 2045.   She mentioned that it will present both advantages and challenges.   “Demography bonuses can pose a challenge without innovation,” she remarked.

Minister Risma discussed her experience in developing innovative solutions that cater to the needs of beneficiaries, including persons with disabilities. The innovation is designed to provide individuals with greater autonomy in their everyday activities.

The innovations include an adaptive walking stick, a modified three-wheeled motorcycle, and various other inventions.   The innovations empower persons with disabilities to carry out their daily tasks with greater ease, fostering a sense of independence.

During the same event, Felix Soesanto, the president of JCI Indonesia, emphasized JCI's dedication to working together with MoSA to enhance social welfare and reduce poverty." So, the initial step involves scheduling a hearing with MoSA. So that JCI's program can work together with MoSA," he said.

Since its establishment, JCI has been actively involved in various social initiatives, including events like Walk for Autism, to increase awareness about children with special needs.   There are also initiatives in Probolinggo Central Java, such as providing clean water.   In Jakarta, JCI organized a campaign addressing the issue of stunting.

Before this, JCI collaborated with Minister Risma, who was then the Mayor of Surabaya. Together with Minister Risma, JCI initiated an event for the walk for autism, attended by more than 2,000 children with special needs.
