Ministry of Social Affairs Provides Education Program to Binus Elementary School Children
JAKARTA (March 3, 2020) – At a glance, the Aneka Bhakti Building of the Ministry of Social Affairs was crowded with the arrival of 4th (fourth) grade students of Bina Nusantara International School (Binus) who came to carry out a Study Visit, Tuesday morning.
In this activity, the Ministry of Social Affairs provides education on Social Welfare programs to students.
Minister of Social Affairs Juliari P. Batubara in the opening of the event said this study visit activity aims to make children know what the government does and the role of the government in serving the community.
"Children, this country is led by the President. The President appointed 34 ministers to help him. So I am one of the 34 Ministers appointed by the President," explained the Minister to 61 students who attended the visit.
The students were equipped with knowledge about government, especially the duties and functions of the Ministry of Social Affairs in carrying out social welfare programs.
"You must be familiar with social media. Unfortunately, that is not our job," joked the Minister, which was greeted with laughter from the students and accompanying teachers.
To the students, the Minister who is familiarly called Ari explained that there are 5 (five) main programs of the Ministry of Social Affairs, namely Social Rehabilitation, Social Protection, Social Security, Social Empowerment, and Poverty Alleviation.
"Now my job as Minister of Social Affairs is to help the President ensure that these programs are implemented," continued Minister Ari.
The father of two children explained about the Family Hope Program (PKH). He demonstrated the Prosperous Family Card (KKS) to the students and explained its function.
"This is a card for pre-prosperous families. The Ministry of Social Affairs distributes financial assistance to the lowest economic families of the population who hold this card every 3 (three) months," explained Minister Ari.
Binus International School's Grade 4 Coordinator, Priyanka Patni, said that the learning visit aims for children to learn about the work of the government to serve citizens and know the rights and obligations of citizens to obtain these services.
The students were invited to tour the exhibition of various excellent programs of the Ministry of Social Affairs including the Social Rehabilitation Center for the Blind (BRSPDSN) "Tan Miyat" Bekasi, Community Social Counselor, Disaster voluntary worker (Tagana) Health Post, Social Empowerment of Remote Indigenous Communities (KAT), Accessibility Car for Persons with Disabilities.
In addition, there is also a Mobile Braille Car provided by the Braille Literacy Center (BLBI) "Abiyoso" Bandung, a Dumlap Car (Field Public Kitchen) which is usually used for handling disaster victims, a program for handling the poor through Joint Business Groups (KUBE), and TePSA (Children's Social Service Telephone).
Not only seeing the program exhibition, but the students in groups were also introduced to the Ministry of Social Affairs environment including the Minister of Social Affairs work room, public service room, Planning Bureau room, and the Family Hope Program (PKH) Call Center Service.
During the tour of the Ministry of Social Affairs office, students actively asked questions ranging from the function of the workroom, simulation of sitting and discussing in the Minister's Meeting Room, and also about other things that the Ministry of Social Affairs does.
One of the students, Jillian, gave her impression after participating in this learning visit.
"This was a fun visit. My favorite place was the Minister's Office," she said.
So did her friend, Chelsea. "This activity is fun. The Ministry of Social Affairs is cool. Now I know what the Minister of Social Affairs does," she said.
Present at the activity was Director General of Social Rehabilitation Edi Suharto, Head of Planning Bureau Adi Karyono, Head of Public Relations Bureau Wiwit Widiansyah, and Bina Nusantara International School Elementary School Teachers.
