SUMEDANG (January 6, 2024) - The Ministry of Social Affairs distributed logistical assistance and compensation for victims of the Sumedang earthquake that occurred Sunday (31/12/2023).

Logistics assistance worth Rp. 1.69 billion was symbolically handed over by the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy accompanied by Acting Director of Social Protection for Natural Disaster Victims (PSKBA) Ministry of Social Affairs, M. Delmi at Sumedang State Building on Friday (5/1/2024).

The logistical assistance is in the form of multipurpose tents, family tents, children's food, kitchen utensils, rice, and others.

Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy expressed his appreciation for the government's responsiveness in overcoming earthquake natural disasters.

"This is a good experience, a good practice, where all elements move quickly and intelligently in carrying out countermeasures," Muhadjir said.

On the same occasion, the Coordinating Minister also handed over compensation to victims injured by the Sumedang earthquake. The compensation was given to Erika Nurfadillah, Fera Dwi Ramadhani, and Ade Rahman. Each victim received compensation of Rp. 5 million. The Coordinating Minister also handed over stimulus assistance to repair houses damaged by the earthquake.

The Coordinating Minister hopes that the team can check and re-examine the overall condition of the residents so that they can be handled properly.

"So if you have injuries, please check again as a whole. And for those who get housing assistance funds, use them according to the provisions. Stimulant funds are funds to stimulate building damaged houses with victim self-help funds, do not use them for other purposes," Muhadjir said.

At the location, Erika, one of the injured victims, expressed her gratitude for the assistance from the Ministry of Social Affairs. "I would like to thank you for helping me with the treatment of my injuries. I am also grateful to be given compensation by the Government," she said.

It is known that an earthquake hit the Sumedang region with a magnitude of 4.8 on Sunday, December 31, 2023, at 20:34. Since Monday, January 1, 2024, the Ministry of Social Affairs has moved to prepare logistics and shelters for victims at several points, namely Sumedang Regional Hospital, Pakuwon Hospital, and several other affected areas.
