MoSA build Houses for Earthquake Survivors in Jayapura
Jayapura (October 14th, 2023) – Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini laid the first stone in the house construction for earthquake survivors in Jayapura on Friday (13/10).
The earthquake happened on Thursday 9 February 2023 at 15.28 WIT with a 5.4 magnitude that caused 4 people to die, and some buildings were damaged, even some residents are still out of their houses until now.
From this condition, Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini collaborates with Jayapura Bishop Yanuarius Teofilus Matopai You laid the first stone in the house constructions for people affected by the disaster.
The Minister said that the house construction is a response to the community
aspiration that was delivered by the Jayapura Bishop.
“So, there are some people who lost their houses caused of the disaster. Then, we are looking for land and we find it here,” said the Minister while speaking in front of the media after laying the first stone in Muaratami Jayapura on Friday (13/10).
According to the Minister, her party deliberately sought safe land for the construction of houses to anticipate subsequent disasters. The Ministry of Social Affairs does not want houses built on the edge of slopes that have the potential for landslides or on land with unstable soil. That's why it takes time to find the right land because the Ministry of Social Affairs must be careful and coordinate with many parties.
Now, it has been determined that the houses will be built in West Koya, located at Rama Street, Holtekamp Village, Muaratami Sub-district, Jayapura. Currently, the land acquisition process has been carried out and it is in the process of approval from the local Land Office.
Meanwhile, the Head of Relocation Team from Jayapura Bishop, Teddy Gosal said that 72 families are planned to occupy this location when construction is completed. They are affected people who come from two locations. "The earthquake victims come from Dok 5 Atas and Angkasa Jayapura," he said.
Besides building houses, supporting facilities such as playing fields, halls, and village offices, as well as chicken and pig farming facilities will also be built at the location. The plan is to complete the construction in the next eight months or June 2024.
