MoSA Distributed Assistance to Residents Affected by Floods in Solo

JAKARTA (25 February 2023) - The Ministry of Social Affairs (MoSA) distributed various assistance to flood victims in Solo City and Sukoharjo Regency, Central Java, on Friday (17/2). The assistance was intended to increase preparedness in dealing with disaster.

Under the direction of the Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini, the Integrated Center "Prof. Dr Soeharso” in Surakarta and personnel from the Disaster Preparedness Cadets (Tagana) immediately carried out an assessment regarding the affected locations, evacuation points, and the urgent needs of the survivors.

"We started to distribute the assistance on Friday in Sukoharjo. We also assisted the public kitchens there, in Solo and Sukoharjo," said the Minister.

The assistance provided includes logistics from the warehouse of the Integrated Center of "Prof. Dr Soeharso '' in Surakarta and the MoSA’s main warehouse in Bekasi. We also provided basic needs fulfillment services, as well as conducted evacuations, especially for vulnerable groups.

Total logistical assistance for flood victims in Solo City worth IDR 1,102,997,100, and for floods and landslides in Sukoharjo Regency worth IDR 209,367,614. Logistical assistance provided included ready-to-eat food, children's food, ready-to-eat side dishes, kids' wear, blankets, mattresses, roll-up tents, main tents, and vel beds.

As a form of support for basic needs fulfillment services, MoSA has also established public kitchens at several evacuation points with a capacity of 5,000 packs per day for the Solo City and 2,450 packs per day for the Sukoharjo Regency.

“The assistance consists of mattresses, blankets and ready-to-eat foods. More importantly, we established public kitchens for evacuees. We work together with the local government and Tagana," said the Minister.

Previously, it was known that on Friday (17/2), the high intensity of the rain had caused the Bengawan Solo River to overflow, resulting in flooding in several areas in Solo City and Sukoharjo Regency. Apart from flooding, the rain also caused landslides in Kamal Village, Bulu District, Sukoharjo Regency.

There were no fatalities or injuries, but the floods and landslides affected as many as 12,530 people in Solo City and 4,000 people in Sukoharjo Regency. Currently, the survivors have started to return to their homes considering the flood conditions have begun to recede.
