MoSA Distributes Aid Worth IDR 446.6 Million to Social Conflict Victims in West Adonara, East Flores

EAST FLORES (October 28, 2024) - Ministry of Social Affairs (MoSA) has distributed additional aid to victims of social conflict in West Adonara District, East Flores. MoSA has contributed a total of IDR 446.6 million in aid.


According to Adrianus Alla, Director of Social Protection for Social and Non-Natural Disaster-Affected People (PSKBS-NA) at MoSA, the aid has been delivered since the conflict first erupted on Monday (10/21/2024). Initial aid was distributed through a social granary in East Flores.


Aid distribution is meant to meet fundamental needs. "We ensure their basic needs, such as food, are fulfilled. Our approach is to deliver essential supplies through the social granary in East Flores, including ready-to-eat meals, staple foods, and other items,” said Adrianus.

MoSA has given emergency supplies from the social granary in East Flores, which include 230 ready-to-eat meal packages, 208 child food packages, 65 mattresses, 50 roll-up tents and 80 blankets.  


Furthermore, further logistics assistance was sent from the social granaries in Bekasi and Efata Kupang, both of which are MoSA Technical Implementation Units (UPT). This aid contains 225 sets of underwear (for men and women), 50 children's clothing sets, 112 dresses, 225 shower kits, 225 sets of adult clothing (for men and women), 100 middle school uniforms, 100 elementary school uniforms, 102 mattresses, 104 roll-up tents, 104 blankets, 160 children's food packages, 1,040 ready-to-eat meal packages, 52 adult clothing packages, and 52 children's clothing packages.


Alongside providing logistical aid to affected people, MoSA has taken steps to restore social harmony.


MoSA's strategic approach to handling social conflict in East Flores includes mediation efforts and facilitating a peace agreement between the conflicting parties.


To address the root cause of the conflict, MoSA is also coordinating with the local government to expedite the issuance of certificates for the disputed land.


MoSA is also providing psychosocial support services (LDP) to affected people, especially those who have lost family members.


The conflict occurred on Monday (10/21/2024) in Bugalima Village, West Adonara District, East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). The conflict involved residents of Ile Pati and Kimakamak Villages, who attacked and burned homes in Bugalima Village due to a dispute over customary land ownership. The conflict resulted in one death, several injuries, and the destruction of dozens of homes and property.


MoSA is also working with various stakeholders in addressing the social conflict in East Flores, including the NTT Provincial Social Office, the East Flores Regency Government, the Adonara Deanery Church, MoSA’s social pillars, and local security forces.
