MoSA Distributes Logistical Assistance and Compensation to Jayawijaya Residents Affected by the Landslide

JAYAWIJAYA (20 May 2023) - The Ministry of Social Affairs (MoSA) carried out a quick response to the landslide disaster in the Walait District, Jayawijaya Regency. Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini arranges her staff to ensure that the affected residents' basic needs are satisfied.

MoSA's team, under the Directorate of Social Protection for Natural Disaster Victims (PSKBA), distributed assistance and compensation totaling IDR 300,497,605.

"By the Minister's instructions, we from the Ministry of Social Affairs have sent the assistance needed by the evacuees, especially the logistical assistance they need while living in camps, such as foodware, kitchen utensils, family kits, clothing, ready-to-eat food, and others," said the Acting Director of PSKBA Adrianus Alla (20/05).

The assistance was distributed via the BBPPKS Jayapura warehouse in the form of 15 packages of foodware, 15 packages of family kitchen equipment, 15 packages of family kits, 100 packages of sanitary napkins, 50 packages of children's diapers, 50 blankets, 75 mattresses, 10 folding camp beds, 100 packages of adult clothing, and 50 sheet mattresses.

Additional assistance includes 20 sets of roll-up tents, 15 sets of family tents, 50 packages of children's clothing, 200 packages of ready-to-eat food, 80 packages of children's meals, and 200 packages of ready-to-eat side dishes. The total assistance needed by the evacuees is valued at IDR 234,497,605.

The team also distributed compensation to three heirs and six injured people. Total compensation aid is IDR 66,000,000.

The team also handed over the heir compensation for 3 people and injury compensation for 6 people. The total compensation assistance is IDR 66,000,000.

On May 10, heavy rains caused a landslide in Walait District, Jayawijaya Regency. This catastrophe claimed the lives of at least three people, and up to 112 families have now had to evacuate.

"We hope that this assistance can meet the needs of the evacuees," said Adrianus.

He also appealed to residents, especially those residing in disaster-prone areas, to remain vigilant about the risks of disasters, particularly when poor weather strikes.
