MoSA Provides Refugee Facilities and Social Protection for Indonesian Citizens from Sudan

JAKARTA (April 28, 2023) - Boarding Garuda flight GA991, 385 Indonesian citizens from Sudan landed at Soekarno Hatta Airport, Cengkareng, on Friday (4/28).
Before returning to their respective homes, the arrivals of group I consisting of 248 women and 137 men will receive evacuation and social protection services from the Ministry of Social Affairs.
"The Ministry of Social Affairs in the evacuation and protection cluster has provided optimal services in the evacuation process of Indonesian citizens from Sudan. We have prepared everything from providing logistical needs to food," said the Director
of Social Protection for Social and Non-Natural Disaster - Affected People at the Ministry of Social Affairs (PSKBNA) Mira Riyati in Jakarta (4/28).
The services provided upon arrival of Indonesian citizens in Indonesia are divided into 3 groups, namely the first group on April 28, 2023, totaling 385 Indonesian citizens, the second group on April 30, 2023, and the third group on May 1, 2023. In detail, the Ministry of Social Affairs has prepared several services to provide logistical needs while in the Hajj Dormitory i.e. kids ware, adult clothing for men and women, children's clothing, educational toys for children, underwear for men and women, toiletries, boxed rice meals with total assistance of IDR1,114,770,000 and Psychosocial Support Services (LDP) which are provided for 5 (five) days from April 28 to May 2, 2023. "Upon arrival in Indonesia, Indonesian citizens will be taken to the Pondok Gede Hajj Dormitory, East Jakarta to receive a health check, antigen test, provision of basic logistical needs, and temporary accommodation before returning to their respective areas," said Mira. The evacuation location at the Pondok Gede Hajj Dormitory has prepared 3 towers divided into 1 tower for families, 1 tower for single men, 1 tower for single women, and 1 additional building for sick Indonesian citizens.
"In addition, the Ministry of Social Affairs has prepared 7 psychologists to provide Psychosocial Support Services, 1 tent for children's play areas, 1 other tent for the Health Post from the Ministry of Health," continued Mira.
Sarniah binti Sarnata (31), one of the Indonesian citizens who just arrived in Indonesia, said that the repatriation process was immediately carried out by the Indonesian Government considering the worsening armed conflict between the Sudanese Government Military and the Rapid Support Force (RSF) Militia in Khartoum on April 15, 2023. "I have been there for 8 years, there were bombs and wars. Thank God, I found out that there was a repatriation ticket. Thank you for the assistance of the Ministry of Social Affairs who provided logistics. I am underprivileged. I want to go home but I don't have money, I've always wanted to go home but I don't have money," explained Sarniah.
The Indonesian government in this case has activated 2 clusters for emergency handling, namely the Health Cluster coordinated by the Ministry of Health through the Crisis Center, and the Refugee and Protection Cluster coordinated by the Ministry of Social Affairs with support from non-governmental organizations.
The process of repatriating Indonesian citizens from Sudan is planned through 2 scenarios, namely through independent repatriation by being picked up by family and through the local government.
The repatriation of Indonesian citizens from Sudan to Indonesia to their respective regions is in collaboration with the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture (KemenkoPMK), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Religion and the Police.
