EAST LOMBOK (August 1st, 2022) - This morning, the routine was slightly different from the previous days at the residence of Ilmiatun Sholihah (11) and Khairul Anwar (7), a brother and sister who live in the North Reban Tebu, Sandubaya Village, Selong District, East Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).

Every morning after waking up, they usually immediately take a shower and go to school, however, starting today, they had an additional routine. They have to clean the room and make the bed after wake up, which was recently renovated by the Ministry of Social Affairs.

Having their own rooms and beds, it makes them happy that is shown in their face.

Sholihah, who is currently in 5th grade, revealed that now she can study and sleep comfortably in her new room. “It's great to get a new room. Now, I can sleep and study comfortably in this room," Sholihah said with her sparkling eyes.

Her brother, Khairul, is also still filled with joy after finding her house is now equipped with a special room for himself with a new mattress.

Before having a new room and mattress, Khairul rarely washed his feet before going to bed. But now, he admits that he never forgets to wash his feet and clean himself before going to bed.

"Now, I have my own room. I always wash my feet before entering the room to sleep," he said enthusiastically.

Previously, their house only had one bedroom, which required Sholihah and Khairul to sleep side by side in the same room. The condition of the roof of the room that was starting to wear out, it also made the room leak every rain.

Currently, their house already has three bedrooms so Sholihah and Khairul can sleep separately and have a safe and comfortable space to rest, as well as study.

Forms of Protection for Children

Ministry of Social Affairs provides assistance for the renovation of a Child Friendly House worth Rp. 25 million to the children of Saipudin Zuhri and Nanik Patmawati in Selong, East Lombok.

Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini, who had the opportunity to visit the Child Friendly House, today, said that this assistance was given as one of the efforts of the Ministry of Social Affairs to provide protection to children in their smallest environment, namely the family.

"We want these children to get their rights, the right to have protection and growth, in the family," said the Minister of Social Affairs while reviewing the Child Friendly House in Selong, East Lombok, today (01/08).

This concept, said the Minister of Social Affairs, started from her desire to provide a separate space that is safe and comfortable for children, especially teenagers. "I tried to communicate with the children, it turns out that on average they live in one room," she said.

According to her, children should also be given the opportunity to live in a suitable house to live in, and meet the requirements for their health and safety.

"Then, we thought, how to separate the room space for girls and boys, including between teenagers and adults. So, that's the concept that we built," he explained.

Through this assistance, the Minister of Social Affairs hopes for sympathy and concern for the surrounding community. "Because this cannot be done by the government alone, we need the involvement of all parties to jointly protect the future of this nation," he said firmly.

This Child Friendly Home Assistance in Selong is part of a series of activities to celebrate National Children's Day (HAN) 2022 in East Lombok. This assistance targets families who have teenagers.

Escorted by the ‘Paramita’ Center in Mataram belonging to the Ministry of Social Affairs, the renovation of Child Friendly Homes is complemented by Social Rehabilitation Assistance (ATENSI) for Decent Home Facilities and Infrastructure, Entrepreneurial Capital and School Supplies for Sholihah worth Rp22.5 million.

In addition, the house has also been facilitated to install and access municipal  waterwork and electricity worth Rp. 15.5 million, so that the total assistance for Child Friendly Homes, along with all its infrastructure for children in Selong, East Lombok, is around Rp. 63 million.
