MAKASSAR (October 26, 2024) – To commemorate the 53rd anniversary of the Indonesian Civil Servants Corps (KORPRI), the Ministry of Social Affairs (MoSA) sent ten representatives to a badminton competition hosted at the South Sulawesi Governor's Office Sports Hall from October 24 to 26, 2024.

This year’s KORPRI anniversary theme, “Unity in Diversity,” underscores the importance of unity despite differences in agency backgrounds and regions. The badminton event had 40 contingents from various Ministries/Agencies, provincial representatives from across Indonesia, and regencies/cities in South Sulawesi, for a total of 995 registered participants and officials.

The tournament was officially launched by Zudan Arif Fakhrulloh, Chairman of the National KORPRI Council and Acting Governor of South Sulawesi, with a traditional Makassar drumbeat. “I hope participants not only focus on the competition but also enjoy the beauty of Makassar and South Sulawesi, and help promote it through social media,” he said. Zudan also noted that this tournament serves as a warm-up for next year’s KORPRI National Sports Week (PORNAS), which is set to take place in Palembang.

Pier Lailani Busjra, Head of the Sports and Cultural Arts Subdivision of KORPRI Ministry of Social Affairs, stated that this involvement promotes camaraderie across Ministries/Agencies and strengthens relationships among civil servants across Indonesia. "We are very pleased to be a part of this event, not just as a sports competition, but also as an opportunity to strengthen our unity and togetherness," she remarked in Makassar on Saturday (10/26).

Mohammad Fadil Imran, Chairman of the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI), also attended and praised all of the participants and organizers. "Badminton is more than simply a match; it is an opportunity to bring us all together in the spirit of sportsmanship. "I hope KORPRI members can inspire our youth to become future world champions," he stated.

M. Asrorun Niam Sholeh, chairman of the event organizers, stated that the event's goal is to strengthen civil servants' bonds. “Even though we come from different Ministries/Agencies and various provinces, regencies and cities, we are united as civil servants,” he stated.

Adding to the excitement, legendary Indonesian badminton players such as Marcus Fernaldi Gideon, Liliyana Natsir, and Tontowi Ahmad also attended the tournament.

In addition to the badminton tournament, the 53rd KORPRI Anniversary celebration continues with the “Korpri Run 2024” on October 27, featuring 5- and 10-kilometer races. This event also commemorates South Sulawesi's 355th anniversary, adding to the festive atmosphere in Makassar.
