JAKARTA (12 November 2022) - Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini emphasized that disaster management is the government's strategic agenda. One reason is that Indonesia is a country prone to natural disasters such as tectonic, volcanic and hydrometeorological disasters.

On various occasions, the Minister emphasized the importance of increased vigilance in facing the ever-increasing threat of disaster. According to data from the National Board for Disaster Management (BNPB), disasters in 2022 have increased by 16% compared to the previous year. Affected communities and refugees also experienced a 12% increase.

In reducing disaster risk, the Minister instructed to increase preparedness, and change the mindset and behavior in disaster management, through the Disaster Preparedness Village (KSB). The Minister also continues to encourage the establishment of social granaries, to ensure that people in isolated areas still have access to assistance.

On a different occasion, the Director of Social Protection for Natural Disasters Victims (PSKBA) Iyan Kusmadiana ensured that he would continue to strengthen the Minister's directives. PSKBA and Disaster Voluntary Worker (Tagana) will continue to improve logistical preparations at the national level in the form of food, clothing, and others as an effort to prepare for various disasters, including hydro-meteorological disasters.

"We are preparing logistical support to the centers of the Ministry of Social Affairs (MoSA) and also social shelters throughout the country," said Iyan while attending the National Preparedness Ceremony to deal with hydrometeorological disasters, in Jakarta, Wednesday (9/11).

Iyan also ensured that he would continue to increase the capacity of Tagana's human resources to strengthen preparedness in preparing shelters and logistics for Psychosocial Support Services (LDP) through Tagana Training at the Tagana Center. Preparedness is also carried out in terms of logistical support, such as ready-to-eat or served food from MoSA Public Kitchen, as well as disaster management equipment to always be ready.

Furthermore, MoSA has increased preparedness in (disaster-prone) areas since 2009, through the KSB, which is located in local villages or sub-districts. With the system that has been created by the Ministry of Social Affairs, it is hoped that if there is a disaster, it can be managed immediately.

"Aside from Tagana, strengthening the community through the Disaster Preparedness Village continues to be improved. Hopefully, with all the efforts that have been made, we will be ready to manage disaster," said Iyan.

Mitigation and increased preparedness are the backgrounds for implementing the National Preparedness Call to deal with hydrometeorological disasters. This activity was initiated by the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture (PMK).

2,500 rally participants, 200 of whom were representatives from Tagana DKI Jakarta, Bogor City and Regency, Tagana Center and elements of regional heads from 10 Provinces, 34 Regencies/Cities which have very strong potential to experience floods and landslides.
