JAKARTA (1 July 2021) - The Ministry of Social Affairs through the Directorate General of Social Protection and Security emphasizes the importance of Psychosocial Support Services (LDP) for family resilience in dealing with disasters.
Representing Social Minister Tri Rismaharini, Sunarti as Director of Social Protection for Social Disaster Victims explained that families are the most affected subjects during the COVID-19 pandemic.
"The pandemic has greatly affected the existence of families, both nuclear and extended families," said Sunarti in the Webinar 'Building Family Resilience, Forming Initiatives and Mental Health Support' organized by the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) in Jakarta, Tuesday afternoon (29/6). ).
As an indirect service, LDP can be used as a reference when dealing with disaster victims, including families.
"LDP must be fulfilled, known, understood and implemented by all of us, including trained volunteers as it is already in the regulations," said Sunarti.
This alumnus of the Bandung Social Welfare Polytechnic (Poltekesos) stated that the LDP approach has proven to be successfully applied to disaster management in West Nusa Tenggara and Central Sulawesi in 2018.
"By taking an individual and family approach, LDP is one of the recommended services in the event of a disaster," said Sunarti.
The Ministry of Social Affairs implements technical policies that prioritize the prevention of community-based social disaster victims. Therefore, a number of social volunteer human resources are present in all provinces and districts/cities, such as Peace Pioneers (Pordam), Disaster Preparedness Cadets (Tagana), Social Worker Service Unit (Sakti Peksos), and Community Social Workers (PSM) to accelerate the handling of social disaster victims.
"On a volunteer basis, the social work approach must be understood by complying with psychological signs referring to the understanding of LDP," said Sunarti.
Strengthening LDP for families, continued Sunarti, is an intervention step so that people can continue to be active, prosperous, and able to participate in developing creative thinking and feel safe despite being exposed to COVID-19.
"By participating in therapy, counseling and psycho-education in LDP, families are expected to get positive energy in efforts to prevent getting infected by Covid-19 or accelerate the recovery after exposure," explained Sunarti.
In the future, all Ministries/Agencies as well as related ranks in regency/city governments are expected to adjust themselves with the pandemic to make individuals and communities survive in the face of COVID-19.
"The culture of mutual cooperation by strengthening each other by maintaining communication during the restriction of physical distancing both with nuclear families, extended families, and work units are our efforts to get through this pandemic," said Sunarti.
