Person with Cerebral Palsy Receive Adaptive Wheelchairs from the Ministry of Social Affairs

CIAMIS (March 30, 2024) - Mrs. Rukmini (72), the biological mother of Imas (26) who has physical disabilities (cerebral palsy) feels very grateful. The resident of Maleber Village, Ciamis District, Ciamis Regency, West Java, received assistance from the Ministry of Social Affairs, including an adaptive wheelchair.

Imas was born healthy. But when Imas was only one week old, Imas had a high fever and seizures which later caused cerebral palsy. This condition causes physical limitations, especially in her hands and feet.

In doing her activities, Imas must be assisted by her mother. To fulfil her daily needs, Rukmini only relies on selling comro (food from cassava filled with oncom) for Rp 10,000 a day.

"Imas was taken to the doctor and also traditional medicine. But due to limited funds, Imas was only treated at home," said Mrs. Rukmini in a soft tone.

Knowing this, the Ministry of Social Affairs through Sentra Phalamantra Sukabumi conducted a series of interventions by examining Imas' condition at the Ciamis Regional Hospital. "From the results of the examination, Imas has Dyskinetic Celebral Palsy so she has to do physiotherapy," said Dr. Irma Purnamasari, the doctor who handled Imas.

The Ministry of Social Affairs also provided an adaptive wheelchair for daily use to support Imas' mobility. Social Rehabilitation Assistance (ATENSI) is also provided in the form of life fulfillment needs, personal hygiene equipment, and clothing. Imas will also get a learning program provided through the Cijeunjing State Special School (SLBN) Ciamis Regency when she gets ready to study.

To improve the quality of life for Mrs. Rukmini, the Ministry of Social Affairs also provides entrepreneurial support in the form of business equipment for making comro and chicken farming.

The Ministry of Social Affairs will continue to provide, support, and monitor the needs of Imas and her family, so that they can live more independently and become an empowered part of the society.
